Okay I’ve been wanting to share my thoughts on Man of Medan for a long time, so here I go:
As a game that was hyped up to be a spiritual successor to Until Dawn, one of my favorite games ever, it definitely DID NOT fulfill said hype. Everything about it is just worse than Until Dawn. From the characters, the choose your own adventure aspects, and presentation. Everything is inferior.
Even without comparing it to Until Dawn, it still is not very good. Like a big flaw is it’s QTE. There are WAY TOO MANY QTEs where failing once can result in a character’s death, and with the game constantly auto saving, than can result in restarting a play through, if you’re trying to get a specific ending.
Going back to Until Dawn, if there were QTEs present and could result in a character dying, there, it gave you two or three, so that way if you do fail all of them, and the character dies, it’s your fault. With Man of Medan, one mistake can kill a character, and that isn’t your fault, but rather unfair to the player.
There’s a lot more I could say about this game, specifically bugged trophies, forced online, glitches/ game crashes, narrativere flaws, etc., but if I had to give credit where credit is due, the Curator and Manchurian Gold are the best parts of the game. Both being mysterious and hide truths deep down within themselves.
Yeah Man of Medan is a mixed bag with more bad than good. It had potential, but it just fell flat on its head. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great. It’s like a solid 5/10. Mediocre. I have little hope for Little Hope (jk I do hope they learn from this and make their next game in the anthology better LOL).
