With Minami being a bit of an acquired taste for most due to the more naturalistic ways of its people, Kusa Jinja resides nearer the outskirts of the Central Island to acclimate and accommodate for outsiders. The Capital itself is a test to see if you can handle the other wondrous creations that reside deeper within the lush region. It offers a glimpse at the environment that the inhabitants of Minami live hand in hand with all while capturing the beauty of both civilization and the nature around it in a truly breathtaking way.
From Kusa Jinja lies roads that lead deeper into the heart of the thriving jungle that provides Minami with its signature export as well as leading to a few of the swamp markets and tributaries and river shrines.
The streets of Kusa Jinja bustle with life through day and night just like the jungle around it. The city itself is always growing and expanding into the surrounding nature. These expansions provide the resources that are sold in the city itself. Besides lumber, Kusa Jinja also sports numerous vendors that peddle local flora and fauna but also sell advice and information. The most common information sold in Kusa is the location of the region’s largest and most renowned market itself, Tengoku no Eda market that is located nearer the heart of the island.
Also known as “The Branches of Heaven” Tengoku no Eda’s market takes the concept of Kusa Jinja to the logical extreme. Its buildings are all built within the trees of the jungle themselves with the streets being the thick branches that connect and create the dark canopy it resides in. It is here where a large array of goods can be found ranging from exotic lumber, to herbs and spices, mushrooms and tea, and even pelts and other animal products. The people that live in this city market hold a strong belief to never harm the jungle and instead nurture the growth of their surrounding home, in doing so they require people that wish to enter and browse their wares to also do something that nurtures their city as well before they leave, some vendors even give discounts depending on what travelers choose to do.
This river spans from the base of Tengoku no Eda to the Kami Temple Springs near the eastern part of the island. Boat rides and tour guides are more than happy to give rides from the market to the springs at any time of day. On these scenic tours the clear waters of Minami are on full display with wildlife and shrines alike. A vast array of colorful flora and birds hang near the banks of this river and life itself seems at its lushest, leaving for a calming and spiritual experience for any that take it.
Near the border of the swamp and the jungle resides a hidden spring that has been dedicated to the Kami. Temples and shrines have been erected here over generations and legends surrounding the springs itself are aplenty throughout the locale. Locals tell stories of disguised spirits that will appear in the spring, inquiring on a traveler’s story before leaving them with a blessing. Regardless of if you believe the stories or not the rejuvenating waters are certain to draw you in for a rest.
Raifuu~ōtābirejji sits on the northwestern tip of the island. The village sits on the edge of a swamp and jungle. Its citizens farm sugar cane, bamboo, and rice. Villagers maintain a modest market supplied with crops and fish as well as Raifuu Water, a clear container filled with the water that pools beneath the village. The water is filled with bioluminescent microorganisms that cause it to glow a deep and vibrant blue at night. Many believe the water to have healing properties due to this and as such they sell it as a home remedy. This alone was enough to raise Raifuu~ōtābirejji to a significant village on the Capital Island of Minami.
Wild Spirit’s Sanctuary is one of the wonders that Minami holds. It's a part of their jungle that newcomers are advised against traveling to as it holds many wonders as well as dangers from Kami that reside there. Those that do travel through this part of the island however tell tales of spirits and strange creatures, of encounters with things that can only be considered paranormal. The very forest itself seems to thrum with electricity and come alive, as if it was all sentient and something more than just what it seemed. It remains an enigma to the inhabitants of Minami.
