Entry level Yohei that have yet to learn the name of their Honzen. Typically this is when a Yohei will learn of the existence of high speed techniques. They will also learn typically that there are several different weapon fighting styles that everyone uses. A Yohei will pledge allegiance to a clan at this rank, and will serve them dutifully. A Yohei of this rank typically does not have any other powers. However there are records of Soldier level Yohei that refuse promotion even though they have achieved Shikai, Bankai, Naiteki, and Chikushou, as well as Presence usage.
Officers of clans are required by Zaibatsu Law to have learned Shikai in order to be granted a promotion. Typically this is where people will learn of Presence as a concept, and might, under the right teacher, be taught Step One, but primarily focus is on the Shikai state of the Honzen. Officers are typically organizers, investigators, and do more detailed work usually than "Go there, kill that." This is when the Yohei will start to learn steps to access the broad array of power boosting techniques that allow them to use their full power outside of their different states.
Lieutenants are those who have mastered their Shikai states and have begun to unlock their Bankai. Beyond this Lieutenants also typically have a better mastery in their chosen techniques. Lieutenants do a moderate amount of paperwork and help their Captains run sections of their clan. Lieutenants are seen far more often in the field than the Captains are.
Captains are required to be able to achieve Bankai, and they will have typically started to commune and subjugate their Yokai by now. Captains usually do the most advanced and intricate missions of their clan. Hunting down and killing massive Kaiju sized Kami is usually left to the captains of the Clans. Captains themselves, otherwise, will usually take their time leisurely and oversee other functions of the clan they belong to. Paperwork is the most vile enemy a Captain faces.
The Hogokami are seven individuals chosen to represent the Royal Family branches. Each Hogokami represents the vested interests of their own Royal Branches and typically will come into conflict. Hogokami are the singular most powerful individuals in Seirei no Kuni outside of the Royal Family. All Hogokami are capable of the Chikushou transformation state and have achieved at least Step One in Presence Mastery.
