Shoshiki translates to Blank Form in the native tongue of those that live in Seirei no Kuni. Shoshiki are formless motes of energy that hold great power. A Shoshiki is considered sacred in the land of Seirei. Shoshiki spirits have a personality to them, but it is locked away in a sleep state until the Shoshiki bonds with a person and transforms into a weapon or set of weapons bonded to the user. Shoshiki will always seek out those who have complementary personalities and will become one soul upon bonding. Upon bonding to a Yohei they become known as a Honzen.
Yohei translates to Mercenary in the native tongue of Seirei. Those who are bonded with a Shoshiki are known as a Yohei and belong to a clan that works for the Zaibatsu. After passing the Zaibatsu Test they are given an invitation to one or more clans. Once accepted into a clan that clan gives the Yohei a Clan Card. Clan Cards carry the insignia of the Clan and work as an identification card. If anyone other than the assigned person has or uses the Clan Card it will appear blank.
Honzen translates to Natural, Inborn, and Inherent. This is the collective name used to describe bonded spirits regardless of the stage of their bonding. When a Shoshiki bonds to a Yohei they turn into a weapon of some kind that matches the users personality. Honzen come from many places across the world, and thus may have names different than the local dialect. The spirit of the Honzen resides within the Inner World of the Yohei they are bonded to. This is the spirit which must be contacted and communicated with in order to advance to Shikai or Bankai states.
The technique used to enter the Inner World is called Jinzen (Sword Meditation), and once the user has achieved a deep bond with their Honzen they can call them out into the world by essentially reversing the technique of Jinzen. This allows the spirit of the sword to manifest in the real world to interact with others. The spirit cannot go too far from the Yohei and cannot inflict or sustain damage in this form, as they are merely a spirit and their true physical form is the weapon their Yohei uses.
The twin states of Hakkei are taking what exists within and making it exist without. It is taking the internal energies of the Yohei and Honzen both and making then an external force. The states are largely considered when giving out Yohei rankings and as such the requirement for reaching them is also a requirement in advancement of ones Hakkei.
Shikai: The first step of Hakkei involves learning the name of the Honzen that has become a weapon for the Yohei. In order to learn the name of the Honzen the Yohei must perform Jinzen and enter into a fierce battle with their Honzen to prove themselves. The act of Shikai is to bring a portion of the Honzen into the world. Doing so usually lets the user maintain an effect or two, but most often this is a physical weapon transformation of some kind. Such as a Sword becoming a large machete, or a spear, or a tri-section staff. In order to use Shikai the user must utter a release phrase, followed by the name of the Honzen. Shikai is a times ten amp to the base state of the user.
Bankai: If Shikai is to bring a portion of the power of a Honzen out into the world, Bankai is bringing the full authority and might of the Honzen into the living world. In order to learn Bankai a Yohei must fight their Honzen again, this time to the death in the Inner World. Honzen often do not want to give their Bankai release to the Yohei, as it means they will be put in further danger, and will fight tooth and nail until the Yohei once more proves themselves. The act of using Bankai is usually a dedication from a Yohei to kill you unless done for training purposes. All Bankai are released via the Yohei stating the word "Bankai" and then stating the name of their Bankai. Doing so solidifies the energy of the Bankai state. Bankai is a times ten amp to the Shikai state of the user.
There are rumors of Ascended Yohei who have completely bonded with their swords, and have fully become one soul.
There are those of a special breed within the Yohei that somehow reach deep within themselves and find a shadow of their self living within the dark dredges. The Yokai within a Yohei is born the moment they bond with a Honzen. The Yokai within represents the purest form of instinct to battle within the Yohei. Power. Domination. Conquest. Authority. Survival. Protection. A Yokai is not evil in nature, but it is primal. A Yokai exists to protect the Yohei they are attached to. Not all Yohei ever truly awaken their Yokai. Yokai grant increased durability, power, speed, strength, high speed regeneration, and the ability to fire off energy rays of varying power, most people call these energy blasts Cero. There are three types of Cero; Regular Cero, A Gran Rey Cero and a Cero Oscuras. All Cero are colored to their Yohei and thus there is no standardized coloration to them. A Gran Ray Cero is available to Naiteki users and it is ten times more powerful than a normal Cero. It requires the Yohei's blood to activate. Upon release, it spins like a razor as it compresses and decompresses due to the sheer speed and raw power. A Cero Oscuras is usable only by those who have Chikushou state and is always the unique color of the Cero combined with black. With the unique color being an outline and the black coloration making up the majority of the attack. Cero Oscuras are ten times as powerful as a Gran Rey Cero.
Naiteki: Naiteki is the inner Yokai brought forth to the physical realm. A Naiteki is the mask that forms on the face of the user. At first contact of the Yokai usually a Naiteki will start to form and great inner conflict will occur. The Yohei will not be able to create a mask at will without subjugating their inner Yokai. The Yokai inside may take over from time to time as well, the mask beginning to form over their face as the Yokai takes control. Upon subjugating the Yokai they will be able to use the mask at will, grabbing at the air in front of their face and pulling down to do so, although further training is required to increase the time limit a Naiteki mask has. These time limits usually increase in increments of 15 seconds starting from 15 until they reach a full minute, in which they increase in increments of five until they hit thirty minutes, and then there is typically no time limit. The Naiteki state is a 10x amp on top of either Shikai or Bankai. It can also function as a 1000x amp to the base state of the user if they have achieved Bankai or a x100 amp to the user if they have accessed Shikai. If they have no form achieved then the amp is x10.
Chikushou: The true beast within. The Yokai made manifest. The inner demon. Chikushou are Yohei who have not only subjugated their inner Yokai, but have made peace with it, and accepted it as part of themselves. Those who lose themselves to near death, find themselves in great conflict, or are faced with an overwhelming opponent and lose their will to fight will become rampaging Yokai, which are typically not referred to as Chikushou as they are wild monsters. Chikushou are a times fifty amp on top of all other amps, as entering the true Chikushou state requires Bankai and the Naiteki state to be active.
