This visual novel hooks you in with the grim setting and tone right from the beginning. It also features the characters simply just trying to get by through their bad situation. These scenes alone really hit hard even before a lot of the drama that happens later on. The characters also feel very human, seeming like people you might actually meet in real life compared to the idealized waifus you see in VNs, as well as having layers to them you wouldn't expect.

One of the better utsuge or "depressing" visual novels I can think of. The characters aren't too archetypal, many of them feel like they could be real adult age people. The situation presents a case of what would happen if all the humans were stuck in a basically unsalvageable situation and change from it.

A massive earthquake leaves a group of 6 survivors to seek shelter in a church, supplies, and information. Extreme circumstances lead some people to extreme actions. There are some possibly questionable developments, and some parts of the overall world-building seem to be neglected. Still, many will find it to be a compelling combination of disaster drama and character study.

If you enjoy stories similar to zombie apocalypse adventures which focus on how humans are the actual issue when a society suddenly collapses, this is probably for you. I really enjoyed watching how characters slowly changed into different directions as resources become scarce and people less trustworthy without it. One character especially develops quite drastically and becomes the center of interest. Additionally, the normal ending is one of the most beautiful endings I have seen so far, so it has a satisfying conclusion.
