"Unique" is the first word that comes to my mind regarding The House in Fata Morgana: The art looks different, the phenomenal soundtrack sounds different, the storytelling often seems to be closer to a Shakespeare novel than what you'd expect in a VN. You'd definitely need to enjoy tragic (I'd dare to say whiny) tales without much comic relief or other ways to vary the experience, but it does that with so much character and style that you can't help but be enthralled by it, especially when the puzzle pieces start to come together towards the end after seemingly separate stories in the beginning.

I feel like 9/10 people will love Fata Morgana so here's a review from someone who's the 1/10. I struggled so much to enjoy this to the point where I was forcing myself to get through it by the end. My main complaint would be the structure of the story - Fata initially sets itself up as kind of a series of short stories, and for me these ended up being structurally repetitive & predictable and too short to really gain any character attachment. This really killed the experience and emotional impact of the 2nd half which is where I feel like Fata Morgana is really meant to shine. That aside, the art and soundtrack were both really unique and did a fantastic job of setting the atmosphere of scenes, and I feel like a lot of readers would empathise with the themes of this VN more than I did- I'd still recommend reading this despite my personal poor experience with it.

Surprisingly, one reason I like it is the unique art. The story and presentation is also very interesting. You start out not knowing who you are but as you progress the mystery slowly unravels. The true ending is also pretty nice since it's pretty much "everyone lives happily ever after". Really my only criticisms are some of the choices are timed and I think the timer moves too fast, and some of the fans are obnoxious (which obviously isn't a problem with the VN itself).

Excellent multilayered story. Strong character writing and great payoff. Excellent expansion content, especially a Requiem for Innocence which is a masterpiece that greatly elevates the whole story. English localization has very good prose.

The House in Fata Morgana ignores most of the “rules” Japanese visual novels seem to follow and tries something different. There isn’t much comedic relief, nor overly stereotypical characters to be found, the soundtrack and writing resemble more of a theatre play than your typical visual novel and the artstyle is much heavier in color than what we are customed to. Even if you won’t end up loving it, the experience will definitely leave an impression of some kind.
