Academic Statement

My teaching is interdisciplinary, inquiry-based and inviting of creativity and play. I introduce students to the fundamentals and history of library science as we reimagine the future of our ever-changing field. As a founding library director, I have led students in revising parts of the Dewey Decimal system. Current research interests  include children's literature and gender; neurodiversity and reading education; and participatory design in libraries. An experienced reviewer for School Library Journal and contributor to the New York Times and Literary Hub, I frequently publish creative and literary work. My passion for the writing process is guided by the Bard College method of Writing & Thinking. I'm an Open Book: On Love, Libraries and Life-Building is my free newsletter.
