Advanced Certificate in Archives
You are eligible to enroll for the certificate under the following conditions:
You are enrolled in an MLS program; or
You hold an MLS degree and work or intend to work in archives or a related field
You meet all the Queens College, CUNY, entrance requirements for graduate study.
*MLS students wishing to receive the Certificate take the required 12 credits of coursework as electives within the overall MLS program.
This New York State-approved certificate is designed to help you develop the skills in the following areas:
Archival theory and practice
Preservation and conservation of cultural materials
Records management
Core (required) courses:
LBSCI 730: Archival Appraisal, Arrangement, and Access*
LBSCI 732: Introduction to Archival Studies
*Should be taken first in the sequence, following completion of the core required courses.

*Many archives are in academic libraries, which require a second Subject Master’s degree. You may wish to consider the Dual Degree in Library Science and History (MLS/MA) program.
