Academic Statement
I have been a director in public libraries for 12 years and working in public libraries for over 22 years. I possess a Master of Library Science from Texas Woman's University, Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas and have been accepted for candidacy for a Doctorate of Philosophy in Library Science at Texas Woman's University, currently working on my dissertation.
I am running for ALA Councilor-at-Large. I am running because our profession is at a crossroads. Never before have we been faced with so many crises at once. Libraries have faced rising costs and closures due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, attacks on intellectual freedom not seen since the McCarthy era, and a lack of diversity within the profession that has remained unchanged for decades. As Councilor-at-Large I intend on confronting these issues head on. I want to help position ALA as a global leader in demonstrating our flexibility, innovation, and adaptation to find new ways of delivering library services during crises and to address the diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility issues. We need to create better channels to support libraries and librarians facing intellectual freedom challenges and even their very livelihood. Thank you for your support.
