Academic Statement
Ashley Hawkins has written for multiple publications. Currently, she is in the process of working on a book in collaboration with Julie Stivers, Sara Smith, Emily Ratica, and Sybil "Mouna" Toure on the use of manga in school libraries. She is a reviewer for Booklist and a Knowledge Quest blogger, as well as writing for her own blog, Manga Librarian. Hawkins has presented at multiple conferences, including ALA, and has been a guest on multiple podcasts. Her work’s main goal is to ensure that every student has access to books they love, particularly manga, light novels, and manhwa, and to help librarians who need support in developing those collections to make decisions that maximize access. Ashley Hawkins is the NYLA Intellectual Freedom Committee Chair.
