Intervention: Rest & Sleep
When addressing what to use in order to help improve their sleep, the therapist should understand their history, leading to the reason for their sleep disorder. Therapists should find out what helps soothe the client, what they typically do to try and fall asleep, and how often they wake up throughout the night if they do fall asleep at all.
Audience: Children and Adults that need assistance with sleep preparation.
Population & Diagnosis: Individuals diagnosed with an I/DD
Purpose: Encourage proper sleep skills and using devices such as a night light, sound machine and teaching when electronics should be turned off.
Rationale & Impact on Function: Proper sleep allows the mind to develop which is important for those with I/DDs. Using devices to help sleep will allow individuals not to wake up throughout the night, helping their neurologic process.
