Intervention: Rope Yarn Game
Audience: Children/Young Adults
Diagnosis & Population: Autism, ADHD, Cognitive impairments
Instructions & Materials: You need a large ball of yarn. This is a group activity where each member of the group stands in different areas of the room. One person starts with the ball and throws it to another member of the group. This cycle continues until each member of the group has received the ball. From there, each member must remember which order the yarn went to each person because you have to go backwards and throw the ball of yarn to the person that threw it to you. The game ends once the ball of yarn is untangled and it is back at the person it started with.
Purpose: The purpose is to promote social interactions and cognitive abilities in short-term memory.
Rationale & Impact on Function: By engaging in this activity, participants will be able to take this skill into the environment and communicate better with others in their daily life.
