There are different strategies when it comes to coping such as behavioral strategies and cognitive strategies.
Creating an action in order to cope with stress such as engaging in physical activity or comforting someone about a conflict.
Being able to analyze the situation at hand to understand the nature of the threat or challenge that is in front of them.
Resilience is the individuals ability to go through stressful situations without going through the physiological or psychological consequences.
Intervention: Free Write
Diagnosis & Population: Individuals who need to express their thoughts and emotions. May have stress and anxiety
Instructions & Materials: Notebook and a pencil. Create a safe space for the client to write in with no distractions and give them a reminder that they can write anything and it will not be judged. Offer the individual a starting point if they need direction but encourage them to dig into their own personal ideas and thoughts and expand on them. Try to have the individual write consistently and not take too many breaks to think. The information should flow and does not have to be in any specific format.
Purpose: Allows individuals to explore their thoughts and promote self-expression and emotional well-being.
Rationale & Impact on Function: Individuals may feel a sense of relief after writing and visually seeing what has been on their mind, which can make more space for them to mentally perform better in their meaningful occupations. Individuals also may be more likely to express their emotions more often.
