As our final meeting for 2025, we again joined with Neilston Golden Girls for a Christmas lunch in Neilston Bowling Club. That was followed by some excellent entertainment from Simon Sims.
Many thanks to Raymond for organizing things and to Susan, Grace and their many helpers for for the nice turkey lunch. Thanks also to Simon for a great musical entertainment session as well.

We had another joint event with the Neilston Golden Girls in Neilston Bowling Club, where had had a very welcome hot steak pie, peas and roast potato lunch followed by a session by accordionist Billy Grey.

After a tasty bacon roll and hot drink in Neilston Bowling Club, five us went out to the Hurlet Crematorium to attend John Guy's funeral. John was one of our founder members, joining the group from day one back in 2022. He was one of the good guys and will be sadly missed. R.I.P.Â

Some of the lads went down to Brig O'Lea stadium to support Neilston F.C. as they were playing against Lintlithgow Rose in the Finest Carmats South Region Challenge Cup. Thankfully, the local team won on penalties after extra time.

We had a meeting in Neilston Bowling Club for our usual breakfast roll and hot beverage. We also had Jenni Simpson in from East Renfrewshire Citizen's Advice Bureau. Jenni was promoting their Older People's Project, the main aim of which is to encourage older people within East Renfrewshire to claim benefits that they may be entitled to.

A dozen of us took advantage of cheap rail tickets to go on an adventure down South. First we got off at Dumfries for some lunch and then headed down to Carlisle for a visit to the Solway Aviation Museum. More details here.

14 of us went for a return visit to the Glasgow Police Museum, followed by a return visit to the Val d'Oro for lunch. We've had a few new members join since our original visits so it seemed worth the repeat outing. Both places have been covered before and don't appear to have changed.

19 of us met in The Pad for a quick breakfast roll and drink and then headed to the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre for our fourth visit. Billy and Molly gave us an entertaining tour that included some places that some of us had already seen, like Arms and Armour and Transportation where we got some hands-on with swords, and a few new ones like Geology and Botany, which was strangely full of butterflies and beetles; Natural History Skeletons and more paintings. With the bowling club closed, some of us had an off-the-books, social outing into Glasgow for some light refreshments. I believe karaoke was involved🎤 but, sadly, there's no photographic evidence of it.🕺

Since we had a number of members attending the funeral of local man Rab Higgins and two handing in sick notes, we just had breakfast rolls and hot drinks in Neilston Bowling Club. Hopefully, Steve and Gordon will be feeling better soon.
We also welcomed in a new member, James, so I'm sure he'll fit in well with the group.
Following that, 13 of us headed down to Lochy's in Barrhead for a game of pool.

John fancied doing us a full breakfast in Neilston Bowling Club and both he and Tam put on a very tasty spread. Many thanks to John and Tam for the feast, for which we are all grateful, and also to the guys that did the dishes and hoovering.
After that, some of us headed up Kirkton Road to the "stone" field to watch Harris, a very happy Springer Spaniel, go through the motions of a gun dog test and show us just how good a boy he is. There's more on the gun dog test here.

We had our first Burns Lunch in Neilston Bowling Club and very enjoyable it was, albeit a bit late due to Storm Éowyn. We had the haggis (piped in and addressed), a dram and a cracking rendition of Tam O'Shanter. More details here.

Our first outing for 2025 was a visit to the Eonarium Enlightenment show in The Merchants House of Glasgow. It's an audio-visual performance that uses 3D projection mapping and music, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, to showcase the rich heritage of the architecture. More details here.

We had our first group meeting of the year in Neilston Bowling Club and, as well as a tasty breakfast roll and a hot beverage, we welcomed in two new members - Les and Stewart.

We had a committee meeting this evening so here's what came up:
the state of our current finances, which are still okay
growing the membership as we have capacity and there are at least four possibilities that have expressed an interest so we'll chase those up
looking into how to better promote the group via social media
possible future longer distance visits using Jim's discounted rail tickets
the bowling club has won a grant for refurbishment that may affect access during any works
looking again at researching some short local/nearby walks that would suit our main age group
