Led by the proud and noble MacLaurin Family, Breckenridge was the first district established by the Caledonian Empire. It has a long history that the MacLaurins are quick to point out, and as such, it's capital city of the same name is home to many ancient buildings and monuments. The city also hosts the oldest graveyard that is still maintained to this very day.
Excelling in fisheries, alcohol production, textiles, and timber, Breckenridge is hard to snub when it seems to be capable of most anything. The general population claims it's because they are directly blessed by the gods, as they are an incredibly religious and superstitious bunch.
Folk tales and horror stories usually get their start in Breckenridge before sweeping across the rest of the empire. Oral history and folklore is very important to the people of Breckenridge, and quite integral to their culture. They have several annual festivals and events built around the practice specifically.
With mountains, valleys, rivers, tunnels, forests, and a large city, the settlement known as Bardhyl seems to be a perfect mix when it comes to landscape. Based on a river, the city moves with the land, rather than forcing nature to bend to it's will.
The city was one of the first official Caledonian Settlements when the Empire first originated. As such, it has over a thousand years worth of history lining it's cobbled streets.
Due to the mist and certain Arcane properties of the nearby mountain range, every year Bardhyl gets a Blood Moon on day of The Procession of 100 Demons.
The smaller of the two main cities of Breckenridge, Beaver Creek is a rustic township with stone paved streets and traditionally styled buildings. In the summer, the wild fields are filled with lavender and wild flowers, leading to a rather large apiary business.
The city is cut through by several rivers, leading to it's name. It almost as if there were more bridges than streets.
The town has a tranquil air to it, while still managing to stay up to date with the latest and greatest Arcane/technological, innovations.
Named in honor of the roar of it's crashing waves, the Bay of Lions is a small bay with multiple rocky islands. It has rather temperamental waters, frigidly cold with tall waves that are constantly breaking on it's shores.
The bay is a hotspot for fishing and trading activity, as well as archeological research. The islands themselves host ancient ruins from times long since past, some are estimated to predate the Great Freeze.
One of the largest freshwater lakes in the empire, Loch Raithe is home to many townships and small settlements. The area is famous for it's specific architecture style known as grass roofs, where you can often see livestock grazing.
While the lake was famous for it's Sea Serpents in the past, it is rare to find such magical creatures here nowadays. Instead the lake is home to more mundane creatures, such as fish and birds.
Loch Raithe is one of the leading pioneers in the art of fish hatcheries, hosting many fish farms along it's shores.
The Ethereal Fields contain sprawling plains filled with wildflowers. It is usually quite over cast and misty due to the nearby coastline. The area is filled with ancient castles and other ruins of long lost civilizations.
There are several fully functioning castles and vistas in these modern times however. Most are estates with elaborate wineries, the entire Ethereal Fields' are considered to be the most prestigious when it comes to wine country.
