So you're interested in joining the roleplay group known as Myths of Arcana? We couldn't be happier for your interest in our community and your desire to participate. We are here to welcome you with open arms!
To start out lets get the basic essentials out of the way. Hope you're ready for a substantial amount of reading, we promise it's not as intimidating as it looks!
Myths of Arcana, also known as MoA for short, is an 18+ casual, online, dark fantasy roleplay group. It is set in a magical world similar to our real world, with multiple key differences. MoA relies on an underlying plot & world building to keep things fresh while creating a vivid roleplaying experience. Our goal is to have your characters impact the world around them due to their choices in key events, while providing a rich world and background for your characters to explore and discover secrets.
Myths of Arcana is an art, writing, and roleplay based group, we try our best to cater to both writers and artists alike. The group is run predominately through it's Discord Server, with assets and submissions hosted on DeviantArt, this website, and a Database where we manage member inventories. You can create art, write stories, participate in group mechanics, and roleplay with fellow members in our community focused Discord to experience MoA to the fullest.
Myths of Arcana is a group that is based in English, in order to join you will need to have a basic grasp and understanding of the English language to be able to participate. We have no required literacy level for joining or for casual roleplays, we do however enforce a paragraph style for certain group based roleplay events to keep the chat free of OOC talk.
The MoA Discord Server makes use of a bot known as TupperBot. This bot allows members to create custom profiles for their characters and submit posts as if the characters were typing themselves. The server hosts instructions on how to make use of this bot.
To begin, we ask you to familiarize yourself with the world and setting the group takes place in, we recommend reading the sections and subsections of the Rules, Magic, Pantheon, Map & World, History, and How to Join pages, hosted on this website first and foremost. We understand this is a lot of reading, but it's not as intimidating as it looks! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask the moderators.
Once you have finished reading, we recommend you follow along with the Character Creation section of the website. This will walk you through the basic principles of creating a character that can fit the setting of the group.
Once you have figured out your character, you are going to need to fill out our visual application. This can be found on the group's DeviantArt, and will be linked here. You will also need to fill out the corresponding written application, which can be found in the description of the visual application. We also encourage all potential applicants to join the group's Discord Server at this time. Members and nonmembers alike are welcomed to join the Discord Server, but nonmembers will be unable to access the full server until they are official members.
If you are not much of an artist, please don't feel like you are unable to join the group. We welcome artists of all skill levels, and are more interested in the written portion of your character's application anyway. You are also free to commission another artist for your character's application art.
Once you have finished your visual and written application, the next step is to wait for when the group is open for applications. Every so often, the group opens it's doors for hopeful applicants to apply with their characters. We make multiple announcements and update our group status regularly on our DeviantArt page, Website, Discord, & Twitter.
To submit your application, you must join the Discord Server and post your application in the corresponding chatroom. Moderators will then look over the application and decide whether or not it meets the standards of the group. Now is the time for patience as the moderators review all your hard work, we will then approach you in DMs in order to finish your application request.
You may receive three different responses depending on how the moderators have reviewed your application.
The first is referred to as Accepted, this means your application was perfect and requires no edits. You are officially part of the group and are able to participate in all MoA has to offer.
Edits Required is the second response option, this means the moderator teams has found some issues with your application you will need to address before having your application reviewed again. The moderator team will work with you in order to make sure your application fits the standards of the group and all needed edits are made. Once this has been accomplished, you will be fully accepted into the group.
Denial is the third and final response option. This is only handed out in extreme circumstances where we feel like the application did not meet the standard of quality for the group. This might mean you have drastically breached the rules and guidelines the group is run under, ignored key material, or have a poor reputation in the online community. Again, this response is rarely ever given out.
If the group is not open for new applicants, there is a second way to join the group. This is done through the process called Recommendations. Existing members who have been in the group for at least one month may recommend a nonmember every two months. This is done via the purchase of an in-group item, referred to as the conjuring charm, that allows members to recommend anyone they desire.
To submit a nonmember's application, we ask that both the member who is recommending the nonmember, and the nonmember be in the discord server. The member must activate the conjuring charm and specify who they are wishing to recommend. Once activated, the nonmember must post their application in the corresponding chatroom, where the moderators will review the application and decide if it meets the standards of the group. The moderators will then privately message the nonmember to let them know if the application was accepted, requires edits, or was declined.
Members can see their specific recommendation cooldown date on their corresponding User Id card in the group's Database.
If you are already a member of the group and are interested in bringing in a new character there is a specific set of guidelines you will need to follow.
First of all, you must purchase/be in possession of the corresponding group item that allows you to bring in a new character, this is referred to as an Airship Ticket. You receive two of these, for free, by default when you first join the group as a special treat from the moderators. Unlike the summoning charm, this is an item that does not require activation.
Second, the group must be accepting new character submissions. This is something that will happen periodically throughout the run time of the group. As with the public openings for new members, the status of this is displayed and updated our group regularly on our DeviantArt page, Website, Discord, & Twitter.
Thirdly, you are to submit the character the same way you submitted your original character. Linking the application to the corresponding chatroom and then the moderators will look over the application and decide whether or not it meets the standards of the group. Once fully reviewed, a moderator will DM you with the results of whether the character was Declined, Requires Edits, or was Accepted.
