Our Week at a Glance
Math: We will continue in Module 6. This week we will be working on lessons 5-7. On Thursday, students will be working on a study guide in class. Please review the study guide for homework. On Friday, students will be taking a test on lessons 1-7. We will also be reviewing math concepts that we have learned throughout the year in preparation for CAASPP testing.
Students should have all fact families memorized up to 8's this week. All students should be practicing their multiplication facts for a minimum of ten minutes every night as part of their homework. It is very important that they are fluent in multiplication facts as they continue their educational career. Flashcards are not needed, but if you would like to print a set visit this site. If you are interested in having your student practice on IXL, please view the following video. IXL Video Link
Reader's Workshop: This week, we will continue to review concepts that we have learned throughout the year. Some key concepts we are reviewing include finding the main idea of a text, sequencing events in a story, answering text-dependent questions and comparing and contrasting. Students will also continue to practice creating a graphic organizer.
Writer's Workshop: This week, we will continue working on an opinion paragraph using the OREO method on whether they think it is important to take care of the Earth based on the information they learned last week for Earth Day.
Studies Weekly: In social studies this week, we will learn about the Chumash tribe. Students will learn more about the Chumash culture, traditions, and lifestyle.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday for P.E.
Art Docent: We will have parent volunteers come teach an art lesson this Thursday afternoon.
Weekly Reminders:
Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Picture books or books that are too easy will not be accepted for daily 20 reading. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Please make sure they are writing the book title correctly and neatly in their folders.
Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day.
Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gibbins
