Our Week at a Glance
Math: This week, we will continue with lessons 17-20. Students will continue to work with equal groups, multiplication, and division. Students will use arrays and tape diagrams to represent problems. Students will explore the relationship between multiplication and division through the Read, Draw, Write process. On Friday of this week, 3rd grade will continue taking a timed multiplication test. Students who passed last week's test will continue on to the next test (2s). Students who did not pass last week's test will retake it this week.
Reader's Workshop: We will be starting our Benchmark Unit 2 books, called Ways Characters Shape Stories. Our focus will be answering the essential question: How do our actions influence our lives? Students will continue participating in our Reader's Workshop centers which include reading to self, listening to reading, word work and grammar, responding to reading and using technology to build reading strategies.
Writer's Workshop: This week students will write a narrative about a food they like to enjoy during the fall season. They will focus on descriptive language and the use of adjectives to add spice to their writing.
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 30 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. This week we will learn more about the American government. Students will learn more about the Constitution and laws in the United States.
Science: Through reading an informational text, students continue to explore how organisms can be similar and different. Students read the book Blue Whales and Buttercups, which provides many examples of the great diversity of organisms on Earth and the many ways in which they can be similar and different.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Friday for P.E/dance class every week.

This year, 3rd graders involved in Community Council will help create our School Spirit days and themes, make posters for spirit days, and help with our district-wide canned food drive, Stuff-a-Bus. Students would participate in Community Council during school hours. They would not miss class time to be involved. Meetings will take place once a month during the students' lunch time.
Benchmark Tests: Your child will be coming home with their second graded Benchmark test this week. This was their second time answering these types of test questions independently. This is just a reminder that they are still learning how to take these tests, and they are difficult. It is okay if your child is not earning a 3 right away, we will continue practicing and having a growth mindset!
Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Picture books or books that are too easy will not be accepted for daily 20 reading. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Please make sure they are writing in the book title correctly and neatly in their folders.
Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day.
Communicator: Each day, please read together with your child the communicator, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.
Thank you,
Miss Jensen
