Our Week at a Glance
Math: All students should be practicing their multiplication facts for a minimum of ten minutes every night. It is very important that they are fluent in multiplication facts as they continue their educational career. Flashcards are not needed, but if you would like to print a set visit this site.
Module 5: Fractions
Students will begin to formalize their understanding of fractions as numbers by transitioning from recognizing fractional parts of geometric shapes to partitioning and recognizing fractional parts of concrete objects and pictorial models. They begin to understand fractions as numbers by naming the fractional parts of the whole in unit form and describing the relationship between the number of fractional parts and the size of each part. Students will define 1 of a fractional unit as a unit fraction, identify the number of unit fractions needed to make 1 whole, and name unit fractions in fraction form.
Reader's Workshop: This week, we will continue with Unit 6 week 3 of Benchmark. This book focuses on character actions and how they affect the story. Students will be focusing on the essential question: what helps us solve problems? We will also continue to assess students' reading levels.
Writer's Workshop: This week, students will be writing a narrative about how they would catch a leprechaun! They will practice their typing skills by writing their final draft on their Chromebooks.
If you do not practice paragraphing/writing at home with your student, now is a great time to start! A good place to begin is to grab a journal and provide them with topics. These topics can range from what they did over the weekend to their favorite place to visit. If you want to join in on the fun of writing, create a secret journal with your child! This would look like one person writing a short paragraph, passing the diary off, reading, and then responding.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Tuesday P.E.
Weekly Reminders:
Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Picture books or books that are too easy will not be accepted for daily 20 reading. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Please make sure they are writing the book title correctly and neatly in their folders.
Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day.
Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gibbins
