Hello Parents and Students,
Welcome back! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing Spring Break! We are officially on the countdown to Summer with only 8 weeks to go. There are a lot of exciting things coming up as the year wraps up. That being said, please talk with your child about the importance of good behavior. As a reminder, good behavior and completed class work determine if your child can attend Fun Friday.

Our Week at a Glance
Math:
We will continue with lessons 14, 15, and 16 in Module 5 this week. Students will receive a study guide on Thursday. We will take a test on Friday. We will also be reviewing math concepts that we have learned throughout the year in preparation of CAASPP testing.
Students will continue to formalize their understanding of fractions as numbers by representing fractions from 0 to 1 on a number line. They partition number lines with fraction tiles, and they compose and decompose 1 whole by using strategies similar to those used with number bonds and tape diagrams in topic B. Students will relate a fraction’s value to its size, its location on a number line, and its distance from 0 to find pairs of equivalent fractions. They will also generalize their understanding of fractions on a number line to build a ruler that they use to measure lengths within fractions of an inch and to create line plots representing fractional length data.
All students should be practicing their multiplication facts for a minimum of ten minutes every night as part of their homework. They must be fluent in multiplication facts as they continue their educational career. Flashcards are not needed, but if you would like to print a set visit this site. If you are interested in having your student practice on IXL, please view the following video. IXL Video Link
Reader's Workshop: We will be pausing Benchmark lessons to focus on key skills that 3rd graders will need as we approach CAASPP testing in May. We will be reviewing all language arts skills learned this year.
Writer's Workshop: This week, we will continue working on Opinion Writing. Students will be writing about their opinion on whether they believe kids should be allowed to have a cell phone using the OREO writing method.
Social Studies: In social studies this week, we will learn about the natural resource of water. Students will learn about ground water, what a drought is, and what happens when there is too much water.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday for P.E.
Weekly Reminders:
Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Picture books or books that are too easy will not be accepted for daily 20 reading. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Please make sure they are writing the book title correctly and neatly in their folders.
Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day.
Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gibbins
