Our Week at a Glance
Math: Students will continue with Module 3 this week. They will be doing lessons 3 and 4. Throughout this module, students will apply multiplication and division concepts, representations, and strategies from module 1. They use the commutative, distributive, and associative properties to help them multiply and divide. Students advance their representations to more abstract arrays and tape diagrams and begin to use a letter to represent an unknown quantity.
Reader's Workshop: Students will be taking an online Benchmark assessment on reading and math skills this week. This assessment will be completed on the computer. Due to these assessments and the short week, we will not be starting our new Benchmark unit until next week.
Writer's Workshop: This week students will write about what they are grateful for.
Science: Students continue to observe the traits of closely related organisms: four species of bears. Students analyze data about the traits of a particular bear, comparing the bear's traits with the traits of other bears.
Weekly Reminders:
Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Picture books or books that are too easy will not be accepted for daily 20 reading. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Please make sure they are writing the book title correctly and neatly in their folders.
Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day.
Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gibbins
