Our Week at a Glance
Math: We will continue Module 5 this week. This module focuses on fractions. Students will be working on lessons 11, 12, and 13. We will also be reviewing math concepts that we have learned throughout the year in preparation for CAASPP testing.
Students will iterate unit fractions to create non-unit fractions concretely, pictorially, and numerically in unit form and fraction form. They compose and decompose wholes with unit and non-unit fractions by using number bonds and tape diagrams. After establishing that the fractions refer to the same whole, students compare unit fractions and fractions with the same numerator concretely and pictorially by reasoning about the size of the parts.
All students should be practicing their multiplication facts for a minimum of ten minutes every night as part of their homework. They must be fluent in multiplication facts as they continue their educational career. Flashcards are not needed, but if you would like to print a set visit this site. If you are interested in having your student practice on IXL, please view the following video. IXL Video Link
Reader's Workshop: This week, we will be continuing with week 2 in our Unit 7 Benchmark books. Unit 7 is called Communities Then and Now. The essential question that students will be focusing on is: what is a community?
Writer's Workshop: This week, we will continue working on Opinion Writing. Students will be writing about their opinion on whether teachers should give homework using the OREO writing method.
Social Studies: In social studies this week, we will learn about migration. Students will learn about push and pull factors for why people migrate to new locations.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday for P.E.
Weekly Reminders:
Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Picture books or books that are too easy will not be accepted for daily 20 reading. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Please make sure they are writing the book title correctly and neatly in their folders.
Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day.
Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gibbins
