Rouges
The scavengers, the people that get by, those that don't want to live by rules and laws, those that don't mind taking the last bite from a dying person's mouth if it means they live. While not a society in itself, those of like mind have grouped together and often are called tribes for how they live as nomadic warriors. Rogues could come from anywhere. They could even have come from the Tower. However, life in the Towers is not what all expected. Some don't like the idea of slavery, abuse and the new rules those that took over the upper Towers seem to think they can dictate. Some Rogues weren't ever so bad, but never quite fit in with places like Mercy. And even more never joined up with the others and wandered the Deadscape alone or in small gangs.
Roles
Rogue roles are open to anyone wishing to integrate into Mercy. They don't have to flag themselves as a Rogue ICly but beware those of your past might show up or be in Mercy already (with OOC consent, of course). Rogues could be from anywhere in their background or could have been a citizen of Mercy, another Deadscape town or even in the Towers before turning Rogue. For whatever reason, they wish to try out life in Mercy or return to Mercy or take over Mercy.... it's up to you.
Miners & Scavengers: Copperheads
Miner's Lead: Rusty (dondeestamigato)
The miners and scavengers in Mercy, called Copperheads, are those that know how to get the hard-to-find stuff, be it buried under the ground or laying around the Deadscape. Settled in the far corner of town at the old Galena mines, many of the Rogues opt to settle into life there. Scavengers, finders, and scrappers, are the lost and found of the society that once was. They work closely with the Union and provide most of the metals needed for the Smiths, while relying heavily on the charcoal the Union provides for smelting. Rest assured, they can find other things too! You do not need to be a Rogue to join this group, though it seems to be where many Rogues find their place in Mercy.
Rogues come into Mercy all the time to see if they can fit in or find weaknesses or just to momentarily take a break from the harsh life in the Deadscape. It is your story to tell or not tell, there’s no way for a person to find out much about where you actually came from unless you tell. Rogues are not thought of well in most circumstances, they are usually attributed to violence, murder and theft. Those from the Tower may especially be triggered by knowing someone is a Rogue, even if you had nothing to do with one unkind act in all your life.
When you first arrive at Mercy, you likely were accepted into the gates quickly if you did not declare yourself a wanderer of the Deadscape. Many do lie and say they came from another town or escaped from some hellish place like the Tower. All new people go through the same process: You are given a room in the motel close to the gates. You might be crammed in there with several people if many came in at once. You would be interviewed by the Sheriff and Liaison to ensure you are not a risk and you offer something to Mercy to make your stay there worth the rations spent on you. When housing was ready, you would be offered your new place and leave the motel. All meals are had in the Community Hall, no cooking is allowed in your home (fires are only for heat in the few cold weeks of the year). You will have two weeks to find your job to try and carve out your new life in Mercy and the Liaison will help you find what that passion is. After that, it’s up to you the future you make here.
((OOCly, you can RP out that beginning OR you can use it as a backdrop to your arrival and strife getting into Mercy. Or pick and choose which you’d like to do. These are built-in RP opportunities… as is going to a lead of any business and requesting to talk to them about a job. Head to the Liaison and he can work between you and another to get you a meeting. If you do not want to actually ‘work’ anywhere or own your own business, then please do feel free to RP that you have some job you do. Keep in mind not working in Mercy is not an option, so NPC that part of your story if you like))
Each citizen will get 50 rations a week from the bank to spend on the needs for daily life, pleasures and vices. Working somewhere could find more rations to spend or the freedom to enjoy whatever commodity offered by the business. Rations are tracked NPCly so there would be no way to trick the system into getting more without a story request and RP. ((Rations are roleplay background only, no HUD and no need to actually exchange them. Simply an idea of what sort of exchange of commerce there is. Rations are not used for RPing large trade deals, but an easy way to put in perspective what ‘money’ you have and if you choose to throw it away on whores and such instead of eating… RP that!))
