Applications
ALL ROLES MUST DECLARE:
Any firearms (only certain characters will be approved with a single firearm: Revolver, semi-auto handgun, Rifle, Shotgun) Those with a gun KEEP IN MIND, ammo is scarce at this time. Most people only have a few bullets left, as in perhaps five rounds.
Skills: Tower people from the mid to upper levels likely have greater education and are highly skilled in a couple of fields, but have little to no survival skills. Many have never been outside of the Tower. Lower-level Tower people obviously would have had less education, but more survival and basic skills. Basic skills such as cooking, sewing, making fire, basic first aid, identifying herbs/vegetation, etc. do not need to be stated. However, skills your character is known for or excels in need to be included. Remember, it's fun to learn new skills through RP, leave some room to grow!
Where you came from: Freelander, Tower, Rogues
A short paragraph about who you are, more if you like.
LEADS MUST DECLARE:
A more in-depth background that integrates you with the lore and present situation. Have some goals in mind for your group and express them in the background. This does not need to be a long background, get to the point or go all out, your call!
Character Points To Keep In Mind
However you got here, you’ve been living in Mercy long enough to consider yourself part of the citizenry or just arrived from another Freelander town that is like Mercy. Likely you’re not new to life in a town, you might have even once been a Tower worker or rogue that came along before the Tower takeover. You probably know that everyone in Mercy must contribute, though a grace period is given to new citizens or those between jobs. Taalib is around to help place people with employment and help those that are new or struggling to find their place.
((OOCly you do not have to actually participate in working somewhere, you can NPC that your char has a job and contributes if you choose to do so. This is to help drive all people to some RP, not all need that help. Keep in mind that ALL must contribute to stay in Mercy or suffer the consequences and again, it’s okay if you NPC working somewhere as part of your story!
Guns are scarce (and should have been declared and approved in your application process), ammo is even harder to come by nowadays. In the past couple of weeks to days, the takeover of the tower has created an influx of people seeking refuge in Mercy. For the first time, the Mercy council has decided to allow the upper-level tower people in, offering them safety and provisions for their help in improving the infrastructure and life in Mercy. Not all are happy about this, especially those that were once on the lower level of the towers and freed from that hard life.
Each citizen will get 50 rations a week from the bank to spend on the needs for daily life, pleasures and vices. Working somewhere could find more rations to spend or the freedom to enjoy whatever commodity offered by the business. Rations are tracked NPCly so there would be no way to trick the system into getting more without a story request and RP. ((Rations are roleplay background only, no HUD and no need to actually exchange them. Simply an idea of what sort of exchange of commerce there is. Rations are not used for RPing large trade deals, but an easy way to put in perspective what ‘money’ you have and if you choose to throw it away on whores and such instead of eating… RP that!))
You were in the Tower when the Rogues took over likely the only home you knew. Those in the lower levels of the tower might have come to it when taken from the Deadscape or born into the lower class level of the hard-working person that was usually underfed and under cared for. The upper-level tower people, often just as trapped as the lower, were at least afforded education and an easier lifestyle. Many did not realize the full extent of the treatment of the lower-level workers or turned a blind eye to it, few tried to help.
Most in the Tower never have eaten meat, or seen an animal outside of a book, the upper-level people may never have seen a plant growing in the soil unless they were part of the development of the large vertical farming region. Though had access to private showers, running water and electricity. The upper-level tower people may not be based in the world of survival, but they’ve been educated and trained into highly skilled innovators that could make life in Mercy better and the citizens live longer, healthier lives.
When you first arrive at Mercy, all workers were accepted immediately and the upper-level people were turned away at first. Some might have even died while waiting for the Council to agree to give them a chance. However, all new people go through the same process: You are given a room in the motel close to the gates. You might be crammed in there with several people if many came in at once. You would be interviewed by the Sherrif and Taalib to ensure you were not a risk and you offer something to Mercy to make your stay there worth the rations spent on you. When housing was ready, you would be offered your new place and leave the motel. All meals are had in the Community Hall, no cooking is allowed in your home (Fires are only for heat in the few cold weeks of the year). You will have two weeks to find your job to try and carve out your new life in Mercy and Taalib will help you find what that passion is. After that, it’s up to you the future you make here.
((OOCly, you can RP out that beginning OR you can use it as a backdrop to your arrival and strife getting into Mercy. Or pick and choose which you’d like to do. These are built-in RP opportunities… as is going to a lead of any business and requesting to talk to them about a job. Head to Taalib and he can work between you and another to get you a meeting. If you do not want to actually ‘work’ anywhere or own your own business, then please do feel free to RP that you have some job you do. Keep in mind not working in Mercy is not an option, so NPC that part of your story if you like))

Rogues come into Mercy all the time to see if they can fit in or find weaknesses or just to momentarily take a break from the harsh life in the Deadscape. It is your story to tell or not tell, there’s no way for a person to find out much about where you actually came from unless you do tell. Rogues are not thought of well in most circumstances, they are usually attributed to violence, murder and theft. Those from the Tower may especially be triggered by knowing someone is a rogue, even if you had nothing to do with one unkind act in all your life.
When you first arrive at Mercy, you likely were accepted into the gates quickly if you did not declare yourself a wanderer of the Deadscape. Many do lie and say they came from another town or escaped from some hellish place like the Tower. All new people go through the same process: You are given a room in the motel close to the gates.
