Currency in Mercy
Money is nothing you can drink, eat or build with. Money could serve as a great way to wipe your ass...
FOR SMALL VALUE ITEMS:
Citizens of Mercy are given 50 rations a week by the bank to live off of and free shelter and medical care at minimum. We expect everyone to just keep this in mind for RP, we will not be doing a hud. This is ONLY a guide to help build your RP, nothing more. Keep it reasonable with what your character might have, this is just a guide to help you imagine the worth of it. In times of drought or other issues, rations may be lowered or values raised on certain commodities!
A single ration would be about the same as: 10 USD/ 13.50 CAD/ 10.05 Euro/ 8.65 GBP
Mercy offers the following in exchange for ONE ration:
Gallon of potable water
2 Gallons of non-potable water
Full meal at the cafeteria/tavern
Two drinks at the Saloon
Two joints of marijuana at the bordello
Two servings of peyote at the bordello
Bath/shower at the bath house
Three candles
Bundle of wood
A cup of chicory coffee or tea
Item from bakery
Mercy offers the following in exchange for FIVE rations:
A go with a whore
Opium at the hookahs in the bordello for an evening
30 Willow bark pills (aspirin/pain reliever/fever reducer)
Set of clothes
Pair of shoes
Blanket
Soap/Shampoo set enough for several baths
Businesses that accept rations would turn those profits in to the city building in exchange for the goods for their business to continue, to pay their employees and other goods that could help them thrive.
You would not use rations to buy bigger ticket things (bulk materials, precious metals). This is where trading and bartering with your fellow player would get you ahead or get them ahead! ANYTHING can be traded, it's just a matter of what you need and what you have. Some examples you might have or use rations to get, then use to trade:
Alcohol - A commodity that is based solely on pleasure and perhaps after some time, need. In the saloon they accept most forms of commodities to trade for a few beers or few shots of whiskey. When in doubt, a small offering of some sort should be roleplayed. Alcohol itself is a form of currency too.
Foods: Sweetener, salt, bacon, spices, fish, meat, eggs, vegetables, etc
Water
Metals: Copper is very important as better electrical sources may come available, iron, tin, silver, gold and perhaps even scrapped platinum. While silver, gold and platinum may be the hardest to find, they might have the most worth to many.
Supplies: timber, brick, furs, leathers, even finer things like gemstones and precious items that are harder to scavenge for
Services: Literally anything can be traded with the offering of services, from carpentry, metal work, glass work all the way to the oldest profession, sex. Even information and loyalty can be traded for goods.
Ammunition and weapons: Firearms are currently scarce and hard to come by and desired by most. These would fetch a high trade. Though a good bow, arrows, specialty clubs and melee weapons, even armored clothing could mean a great deal to someone.
Medicine/herbs/remedies: these are highly valuable and with the introduction of better medical technology and medicine, could be a huge commodity in trades. It also has a chance of abuse and addiction, driving the value of it up and the desperation to get them as well.
We ask you be reasonable and be creative in your roleplay. If you don't have much, you should roleplay procuring the things you might like to trade for other things. No one in Mercy has it all, though some have a lot more than others.
