If you have made your way to Mercy for the first time or haven’t been in town for a while, you will be approached by armed guards with guns and the ammo to use them. While not aggressive, they are very obviously skilled, trained and very aware of any threat you may pose. They would disarm you with all sincere promises that you would be offered your weapons returned at the end of their check-in procedures, whether you were allowed entry or not.
(You do not have to RP the interview process, however, we do encourage you to do so if you would like the experience in character. The below is to help base your arrival to Mercy if you choose to jump right in.)
The Process all non-Mercy people will go through (and can be RP’d out if you wish)
Each person will be put into an interview room if medically healthy (those not would be taken to the hospital and the interview may happen there when the person is capable of answering questions). Children under 10 would be kept with the adult they arrived with, otherwise, all people are separated. The interview will be with the sheriff, a marshal or even the Liaison from the Advocates. You would have been treated with as much respect as you offered the process. The following questions are the base questions, if you do the interview in person, you may have more asked in roleplay.
You would be sat down, offered a snack and water and whatever simple comforts you may need and a version of an introduction would be offered:
Mercy is a community where we live together and thrive together. In that mentality, all those that wish to live in Mercy, must contribute to Mercy. We are not forced labor, you are free to leave the gates when you wish, though coming back in, you may have to go through this process again, we will offer that to you. You are free to take up to two weeks to determine what it is you feel you would like to do to help Mercy, and yourself, thrive. We will offer you help with the Advocates to find where you fit best. When you are accepted into Mercy you will be given temporary shelter in the motel across the street. You will have three meals delivered to you a day, be able to wander Mercy and meet with others and have any weapons you arrived with in your possession. You will then move into housing when it becomes available, can be a day, can take a couple weeks, it depends on the availability. All meals are had in our community hall, this keeps the food usage efficient and maximizes the food and water available, we ask only fires in your home to heat in the cooler winter months. You may forage and hunt outside of Mercy at your own risk, but be very aware the danger to do so and request an escort to accompany you from the Copperheads, our scavenger and mining group. We ask if you have complaints or issues, you seek out an Advocate for help and if a crime has been committed you see the law. Shelter and medical care cost nothing in Mercy, for all other small transactions for food, water, drinks, clothes and other luxury items or services we have small stamped pieces of coppers we use called ‘rations’. Currently each person here gets fifty a week, though individual places may fluctuate on how many rations a certain thing cost. You’ll learn it as you go, but the rations are typically enough to meet all your needs and have some left over for things that are a luxury or special.
