Now called Mercy, the once small Texas town of Presidio, is as close as you'll get to the bustling and populated. One of the largest Deadscape towns, it built a reputation on Old West mentality and leadership, survival and the pursuit of a new society. While the oppression of the Towers is not present in Mercy, make no mistake, there is crime, murder, thievery and power to be had. These are the pioneers, lawmen, outlaws, gunslingers, saloon swillers, miners, farmers, hunters and gamblers... the people of Mercy.
Roles
Leadership of Mercy
Much like most things in Mercy, the collective of those that control the resources also sees to the running of the town. The Sheriff enforces the basic laws with the marshals and innocence or guilt is determined by popular vote after both sides have offered their testimony of what happened. The barons and faction leads influence the town and meet together to resolve larger issues and work on the collective betterment of Mercy. For their provisions, they are given rule over the town as a committee. The liaison that works between those from all the leadership positions helps keeps the peace within the newly forming citizenry. With the addition of the weapon's guild and technology/medical alliance, the representatives of the towers find themselves with the beginnings of power in Mercy and at a great disadvantage to where they were before.
The Law
Sheriff, Lead of the Law: Eddie Sasaki (kyil.dexler)
The lawmen, though it's not writ in stone who they may serve and what laws they keep. There are few firearms left in the Deadscape, though be sure that each lawman and law woman has one they carry and it's loaded with at least a few rounds. Usually beholden to the Barons and leaders, the Sheriff is almost seen as their own authority and the Marshals just under them. Those wishing to apply as marshals should speak to the lead or attain the position through roleplay.
The Advocates
Liaison Lead - Taalib Hassan (crystal.uralia)
Originally brokered the deal that had the upper tower people and the leadership of Mercy come together. The Advocates negotiate and stay neutral when issues arise and try to make peace of a sometimes impossible situation. They can also help guide people looking for their place in Mercy and finding where they fit in the contribution to town. The Liaison leads the Advocates and sits in on the council to offer advice and help when disputes arise, though does not have a vote so as to remain neutral. The Liaison is looking for members to help keep a delicate balance in the town of Mercy, settle disputes and help our newest citizens settle in, to apply to as an Advocate, reach out to the lead or gain through roleplay.
Water Ranch
Water Baron: Miles Hayes (caleb harcassle)
Water Barons (or baroness) are the leads of what the big Rancher family once was long ago. A way of life and circumstance, the one that controls the water in Mercy, holds great power and a great target. Being in their 'family' (by blood or by invitation) guarantees clean water and the power of providing one of the most important commodities in Mercy. We are looking for a lead of the water ranch and members to join the ranks of one of the most important families in Mercy. Members that wish to apply as family or a working member, please speak to the lead. If there is no lead, submit your application and we will reach out to you. Tower people can join this faction too and those with knowledge on how to improve the ranch are encouraged.
Land Ranch
Land Baron(ess): OPEN
The Land baron(ess) is the lead of the ranch that holds the same importance as those that provide water. More than farmers, these people that work the lands must understand how to grow without much water and the desert conditions of Mercy. The sun beats down hard all day and the temperature is hot more often than not. Belonging to this ranch guarantees not only food but a tradable commodity. Members that wish to apply as family or a working member, please speak to the lead. If there is no lead, submit your application and we will reach out to you. We are looking for a lead of the family and members to join the ranks of one of the most important families in Mercy. Tower people can join this faction too and those with knowledge on how to improve the ranch are encouraged.
Horse Ranch
Horse Baron: Memphis Stoop (Memphis Stoop)
Power, meat and transportation are the qualities in the livestock industry in Mercy. Often traded with the Land and Water barons to cultivate lands or power filtration turbines, and the only horse provider for the Law (and most of the citizens of Mercy), the Horse Baron's ranch is immensely important to Mercy and the only way to export other goods outside of Mercy. They control the livestock animals that offer important protein to keep people thriving. Their family is full of prestige and works with those that control the food and water and provides for all of town in several ways. Members that wish to apply as family or a working member, please speak to the lead. If there is no lead, submit your application and we will reach out to you. We are looking for a lead of the family and members to join the ranks of a very important family in Mercy. Tower people can join this faction too and those with knowledge on how to improve the ranch are encouraged.
The Union
Union Lead: Noah Durrant (carlwhatever)
Food, water, and horses are important, but not possible without the skilled labor that helps build the items that keep those industries going. The Union consists of smiths, carpenters, plumbers, framers, builders and others who build things. They have the supply of most of the wood in town and create charcoal for others to use. The Union headquarters are in the Foundry building, though members may have their own shops. Tower people can join this faction too and those with knowledge on how to improve the Union are encouraged.
The Collective
Collective Lead (the Brewmaster): OPEN
The Collective is a group of brewers, bakers, tailors, jewelers, weavers, potters, glassblowers, soap makers, candlers, artists and others that create items that add to the enjoyment or ease of life in Mercy. Led by the brewmaster, the Collective has its headquarters in the Saloon, though members may have their own shops throughout town. This group is in control of the alcohol in Mercy, they provide their brews and spirits to the bordello and other establishments, but also provide medical use alcohol and other substances not used for consumption. The Collective is represented heavily in the Trade Area and while others might have a stall there, the Collective maintains and runs the trade square. The law may try to regulate what the Collective can do when it comes to getting people drunk especially, but the power they wield is immeasurable as both the land and water barons will protect the Collective at all costs for all the materials they provide and goods they use. Tower people can join this faction too and those with knowledge on how to improve the Collective are encouraged.
Outlaws of Mercy
While steeped in more freedoms than any other society, that lends itself well for the criminals to find a niche to grab hold of. While the commodities are not the same as once before, corruption never stops. Water, food, people, technology and weapons... etc are highly coveted in all markets, from those of Mercy to the former Tower people and of course... the Rogues. There is no specific outlaw lead, but those wishing to organize a faction of such are encouraged to do so. Do remember, outlaws should appear to be trying to fit into society by contributing to the job market. We hear the Miners is a good place for people with that skill!
Everyone
A citizen of Mercy. You can be anyone, have come from anywhere, even have been born in Mercy. These are the people that keep the town going, that introduce the richest lines of story and happenings to Mercy. You can be anyone in Mercy...merchant, worker, shop owner, whore, tinkerer, builder, one with great ideas or one with great ambitions. Build your own story in Mercy!
A note on membership to any group: You may app into a group or join through RP. You may not lead more than one group, but you are welcome to belong to more than one through Roleplay. No one can app into more than one faction when joining, but may join another through Roleplay.
However you got here, you’ve been living in Mercy long enough to consider yourself part of the citizenry or just arrived from another Freelander town that is like Mercy. Likely you’re not new to life in a town, you might have even once been a Tower worker or rogue that came along before the Tower takeover. You probably know that everyone in Mercy must contribute, though a grace period is given to new citizens or those between jobs. Taalib is around to help place people with employment and help those that are new or struggling to find their place.
((OOCly you do not have to actually participate in working somewhere, you can NPC that your char has a job and contributes if you choose to do so. This is to help drive all people to some RP, not all need that help. Keep in mind that ALL must contribute to stay in Mercy or suffer the consequences and again, it’s okay if you NPC working somewhere as part of your story!))
Guns are scarce (and should have been declared and approved in your application process), ammo is even harder to come by nowadays. In the past couple of weeks to days, the takeover of the tower has created an influx of people seeking refuge in Mercy. For the first time, the Mercy council has decided to allow the upper-level tower people in, offering them safety and provisions for their help in improving the infrastructure and life in Mercy. Not all are happy about this, especially those that were once on the lower level of the towers and freed from that hard life.
Each citizen will get 50 rations a week from the bank to spend on the needs for daily life, pleasures and vices. Working somewhere could find more rations to spend or the freedom to enjoy whatever commodity offered by the business. Rations are tracked NPCly so there would be no way to trick the system into getting more without a story request and RP. ((Rations are roleplay background only, no HUD and no need to actually exchange them. Simply an idea of what sort of exchange of commerce there is. Rations are not used for RPing large trade deals, but an easy way to put in perspective what ‘money’ you have and if you choose to throw it away on whores and such instead of eating… RP that!))
