The 2020 Tribute to
Lee High School's First Veterans

Memphis, TN - I wish all of you who are veterans or is/was married to a veteran a Happy Veteran's Day. I hope this day can still be treated as special, even though we are living in a troubled time. I still find it amazing to look at the long list of names and see how many of my fellow classmates served in the military. I find myself wondering how many of this year's class will serve like we did. I fear it would be a disappointing number.
For my Veteran's Day celebration I was given a ride in a B-25 World War II aircraft out of the old Blytheville AFB, Arkansas on Saturday.
I hope you enjoy this year's tribute to the men and women from Lee High School who earned the status of being a Military Veteran. In this time of a lack of respect for the American Spirit, it is special to know that I served with so many of you who answered the call to duty when needed. There is no way to include the names of all who served, so I have limited this list to the members of the classes of 1964-1965-1966 and 1967, along with a few special classmates from 1968. This year's tribute is a completely new one because the software I have previously used to create the tributes is no longer available. I have been soliciting the names of our Veterans for about four months now along with the names of those classmates who were married to Veterans. I know there are many more, but the names included in this tribute are the only ones who responded to my requests or that I know their personal history. Amarlys "Marty" Ramsey, of Cullman, AL passed away Tuesday, November 3. Marty was a retired Data Analyst for Jacobs Sverdrup on the Arsenal for 21 years. She is survived by her mother, Gloria Glassco of Cullman, AL, brother Darryl (Liza) Glassco of Houston, TX, daughter, Regina Akin of Spring Hill, TN, son Jason (Alison) Ramsey of Tullahoma, TN, and son Josh (Alison) Ramsey of Birmingham, AL, as well as 6 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Alton Glassco of Cullman, AL. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Center Grove Baptist in Tullahoma, TN on Saturday, November 14 at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Adoration Hospice of Manchester, TN. To Plant Memorial Trees in memory, please visit our Sympathy Store.

Thanks Tommy. My ninth grade home room and English and literature was Mrs. Riley Carroll also had her for literature later she was one of my greatest influences.

I like the fishing poem. Going to let Ed, my son-in-law read it. Fishing is his thing. I also liked diagramming sentences; it was a good way to learn. Hope all is well with you.

My favorite poem is and always has been "Renascence", Edna St. Vincent Millay, from English class. I used the beginning hand painted around my music room at my studio/house; in fact, one of my students, Swapna Kakani, was asked about it on a Randolph bowl she was in (You're welcome!)! And I wrote my book (just for me), entitled "Renascence" and started each chapter with a portion, following its gist in the story. It worked very well for me. I guess we carried some things along ways from Lee High days.
