Grammar Note: Asking Questions in Spanish
These questions start with the ¿ question mark followed by a question word: who, what, where, when, how, why, could. After the question word you generally need a verb, and then the subject, with some exceptions. You will also need a question mark at the end, just the same as in English.

¿Cómo? - How? - Example: ¿Cómo te llamas (tú) ? (What are you called?)
¿De dónde? - From where? Example: ¿De dónde eres (tú)? (Where are you from?).
¿Dónde? - Where? Example: ¿Dónde trabajas (tú)? (Where do you work?).
¿Cuál? - Which? Example: "¿Cuál es tu correo electrónico ?" (Non-literal translation: What's your email address?).
¿Qué? - What? It is used to ask for definitions. Examples: ¿Qué es el guacamole? (What's guacamole?). The word "que" is also used before a noun. ¿Qué color es ese? - (What colour is that?).
¿Quién? - Who? - Example: ¿Quién es ella? (Who is she?).
¿Cuándo? - When? - Example: ¿Cuándo termina la clase? (When does class end?).
¿Por qué? - Why? - Example: Person A: No entiendo. (I don't undertand). Person B: ¿Por qué? (Why?) Person A: No hablo español. (I don't speak Spanish).
¿Cuánto? / ¿Cuántos? / ¿Cuántas? - How much? / How many? Examples: ¿Cuánto cuesta? (How much does it cost?) ¿Cuántos amigos tienes? ¿Cuántas amigas tienes? (How many friends do you have?).
¿Puedes? - Could you? Familiar - Example: ¿Puedes repetir? (Could you repeat that?).
¿Puede? - Could you? Formal - Example: ¿Puede ayudarme? (Could you help me?).
