CLASS ACTIVITIES
Activity #1 - How do you say....?
Get together with a small group of classmates. Using the city map provided (please open the city map), test each other on the places. Use both English and Spanish. For example:
¿Cómo se dice "drugstore" en español?
¿Cómo se dice "banco" en inglés ?
Activity #2 - Trying to find a place
Select one place you want to go to in the city map. Decide also where you are standing by choosing one of the happy faces on the map.
Once you have made these selections, walk around the classroom asking your classmates where a place (either specific or non-specific) is located.
¿Tu sabes dónde hay una...? / (or) / ¿Tu sabes dónde hay un.....?
¿Dónde queda la.....? / (or) / ¿Donde queda el.......?
Your classmates need to tell you one of the following: the distance in blocks from where you are standing, the address by naming the street, the overall distance, the cardinal direction, or the location.
When you found a student who could help you find the place, go with this student and both of you tell your professor the brief conversation you just had with your classmate.
Activity #3 - Teaching others
After learning the names of 5 other useful places in town, teach these to a small group. Then, your group will select the two most important ones and teach these to the entire class.
