Grammar Note: Singular nouns and articles
¿Te gusta + article + singular noun? - This structure is used when we ask someone about whether that person likes something such as a song.
Notice that Spanish does use articles more often than English.
The article "la" means "the" and is a definite article that we use with feminine nouns such as the word canción (song). Example: Me gusta la canción - I like the song.
If the noun is masculine, we will use "el" for the definite article. Notice that this is the same word as the pronoun "he" but the article "el" a does not have an accent on the letter e. Example: Me gusta el café - I like coffee.
Although the pairing of nouns and articles will often need to be memorized, in general, you will find that nouns ending in O will use the masculine definite article "el" and nouns ending in A will use the feminine definite article "la."
