Grammar Notes: Questions and Answers for Schedules
Now that you know the key verbs to discuss schedules, you can select from two types of question structures.
The first one asks the question ¿A qué hora? - At what time?
The second one starts with the question word ¿Cuándo? - When?
¿A qué hora?
Start with the phrase followed by the verb and noun:
Question structure: ¿A qué hora + verb + noun?
Examples:
El autobús regresa a las doce de la noche. - The bus returns at twelve p.m.
Use the question word ¿Cuándo? followed by the verb and a noun phrase.
Question structure:
¿Cuándo + verb + noun ?
Examples:
¿Cuándo empieza la clase? - When does the class start?
La clase empieza a las tres y veinticinco de la tarde. - The class starts at 3:25 p.m.
¿Cuándo termina la clase? - When does the class end?
La clase termina a las seis de la tarde. - The class ends at six.
¿Cuándo llega el vuelo? - When does the flight arrive?
El vuelo llega a las siete de la mañana. - The flight arrives at seven a.m.
¿Cuándo sale el vuelo? - When does the flight depart?
El vuelo sale a las veintidós horas. - Flight departs at 10:00 p.m.
Note: Instead of the article "el," you can use the possessive adjectives "mi, tu, su" to refer to your own or someone else's flights - mi vuelo, my flight. Tu vuelo - your flight. Su vuelo - formal your, his or her flight.
Asking about dates:
You can also use the question word ¿Cuándo? to ask about dates. Here are some examples:
¿Cuándo cierra la biblioteca en Seneca? - When does the library at Seneca close?
La biblioteca cierra el domingo. - The library closes Sunday.
Another option is to use the question ¿Qué día....? - What day?
¿Qué día cierra la biblioteca en Seneca? - On what day does the library at Seneca close?
La biblioteca cierra el domingo. - The library closes Sunday.
