from the Info Line Team...
When someone calls LA CoDA, the Info Line Subcommittee (volunteer CoDA members) receive the calls.
If you're interested in being on the Info Line subcommittee, contact info@lacoda.org with your first name, phone # and email address.
There is no requirement for length of time in program, only a willingness to serve. The majority of callers are asking for a meeting near them. Committee members need to have access to a computer to look up meetings or have a paper meeting schedule and knowledge of the Los Angeles area.
The Info Line is open from 9am-9pm. Committee members can designate which hours they're willing to receive calls. When someone calls in, the call rings one number a few times, but if that person doesn't answer, the call rings the next committee member's phone number and so on. No one has to feel obligated to pick up. Not depleting oneself can be the priority, knowing that a peaceful person will be the most of service to the caller.
In CoDA, we focus on our own recovery and learn to release addictions to advice-giving, rescuing or being a doormat. If a caller needs something outside of our program, we can practice setting boundaries with love.
"I'm on the Info Line team. The most common question I answer is "Where is there a meeting in my area?" A lot of folks want to know that. Some have other questions... Some people call to tell their story to someone who will listen and can relate... A substantial number of callers have little or no online access or skills. The Info Line helps them find and participate in phone meetings and access other CoDA resources."
