Subcommittees
WHAT ARE SUBCOMMITTEES?
Intergroup is a committee made of subcommittees. Each subcommittee provides a service carried out by volunteer CoDA members. Any CoDA member can join or leave a subcommittee at any time.
CHAIRS
Each subcommittee has a Chair that facilitates work using the group conscious process. They also report subcommittee progress at the monthly Intergroup meeting. Chair positions usually last two years.
WOULD I NEED TO ATTEND INTERGROUP?
Chairs need to attend the monthly Intergroup meeting, but Subcommittee members don't. They only participate within their committee. However, everyone is welcome to attend Intergroup at any time.
WHEN DO SUBCOMMITTEES MEET?
They choose if it's weekly, monthly, or on a fluid basis and they can meet in person, via phone conference, online or through email. Members decide their level of involvement. They make decisions by Group Conscience.
PRACTICE
Service can be a great place to practice healthy recovery tools like boundaries, using the group conscience process and speaking one's truth. Many of us are recovering from doing too much or helping for the wrong reasons. We learn in recovery that practicing healthy service is a way to be self-supporting and can be part of the path to healing.
WHAT'S REQUIRED TO JOIN?
Any member of a CoDA group within the scope of Los Angeles CoDA can join a subcommittee. The only requirement is a willingness to serve. To be a subcommittee Chair, one needs to have a year actively working CoDA's Twelve Steps, a working familiarity with the Twelve Traditions, and have attended at least four intergroup meetings + four meetings of the subcommittee that they intend to chair. Under certain circumstances, the attendance requirement can be waived. If the subcommittee has members, they vote the Chair into position.
WHAT DOES EACH SUBCOMMITTEE DO?
See below for descriptions, subcommittee meeting minutes, and open chair positions.
All subcommittees accept new members at all times.
