This site is no longer being updated, as of 16th August 2025.
As always, this is a non-exhaustive list.Â
The biggest library of the campus, it's located right next to the Main Building. It has a huge variety of books, both digital and actual. Most recommended textbooks for theory courses will be available here for borrowing (You can borrow upto 5 books for 2 months each with your Student ID Card).
Typical timings is 8AM to 12PM all days, but during & a week before exam week, it's made open 24x7. AC facility is available in certain locations, specifically computer rooms & such. Computers are also available for research purposes.
The primary/main gyms of the campus are located in the Gymkhana, and have a wide variety of equipment & such. There are 6 gyms in total in Gymkhana, and you will be required to register and choose a slot before you can use any of the gyms there. Because of the campus size, it's pretty crowded, and most freshers will get weird time slots (middle of afternoon), but it will change as time goes on.
Many halls also gyms, and both freshers (SNVH & LBS) have a gym for the students there. The crowd is lesser, and the equipment, while not as great as Gymkhana's, is sufficient for most users
The Technology Film Society, TFS (different from TFPS), organizes movie night throughout the semester, coming to about a couple times a week. The films will be shown at Netaji Auditorium. The information about upcoming movies will be available on the notice board at Netaji, and their facebook group.
There's no ticket fees for watching any of the movies shown. However, movie nights are divided into nights for students, family, faculty, and all (with only faculty shows usually being on weekdays, and only students shows usually being on weekends).
The films shown are usually recent Hindi & English movies, with many of them still having a theatre run when being shown at Netaji. Specific language movies are there, but rare (& many associations instead organize shows at the nearby Cinema); and certain special movies are also shown at the behest of a society (like "Your Name").
IITKGP also has an official merch store, "Forever Kgpian", and it's located on the ground floor of main building. I'm not sure about the timings, but it should be open in evenings from 5 to 8, weekdays.
They have a variety of items: from souvenirs, to shirts, to hoodies, and more.
The quality seems decent (From the hoodie I bought), though the prices were relatively high.
Do note that during winter, stock of their hoodies run out fast, and for having choice, buy your hoodie by November, or Jan first week max.
There's a post office available near the entrance of the campus (Location). It's open from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Mon to Sat. I haven't used it, so I'm unsure of its quality, but it will of course be the cheapest option. In regards to financial accounts kept in the Post Office, you might have to inform in advance for withdrawing cash.
Bluedart -> This is right next to the CCD Spot (Location), and is open on all days (8AM - 8PM). To ensure your package is sent with that day's collection, please go before 4pm. I have used its air-delivery service to south india before, and it had arrived early. Experiences might vary though. Cost varies by size, location, weight, and speed of delivery, but for reference : 1kg by Air came to about 500, and 75 by Car, to a metro city down south.
There is a Shop in TechM near Radhakantha Sweets that does delivery of certain packages sent to you, and while they usually come & give it to you at your hall, you'd have to collect it from there if you miss it.
The primary hospital of IITKGP (as of 21st June) is the BC Roy Hospital, next to TechM (Location). The good thing about BCRTH is that it's open 24x7 (8PM to 8AM, only emergency), and the fact that any treatment & medicine given by the staff at BCRTH is completely free for students (as part of the health insurance), and so is any consultation/treatment/diagnosis done outside campus at the recommendation of a doctor at BCRTH.
That being said, it's not all sunshine & roses. I spent a lot of time thinking how to phrase this but IITKGP already did it best :
"I am aware of the fact that B C Roy Technology Hospital located in the campus, and run by IIT Kharagpur for its community has limited facilities, and may not be adequate for prolonged treatment of patient with chronic or serious ailments, and it's the responsibility of the guardians to take care of their wards for outside treatment."
This was a disclaimer we had to agree to when taking admission into the campus. Thus, like mentioned in the What to do before coming here? page, it's a good idea to complete all required medical checkups before coming here. Furthermore, for small ailments, you can have medicines in your room.Â
In case of any emergencies that can't be handled by BCRTH, you will most likely be sent to Kolkata ASAP.Â
Do note, for any medical leave and/or certificate, you will be required to get it from BCRTH & their doctors, or it will not be considered valid by the institute.

There are a few pharmacies throughout the campus, but here are the main ones:
Srima Pharmacy : At TechM. 9:30 - 9:30 with 3 hour break at 2:30. Open from Tue - Sun (No that isn't a typo, Monday is a holiday as I painfully learnt). (Location)
Cooperatives Pharmacy : At TechM too. Similar Timings.Â
Frank Ross Pharmacy : At BCRTH. Open 24x7. Medicines are free if you're a student with BCRTH prescription. (Location)

Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Super Speciality Hospital (Location) is a hospital cum Research school just on the outskirts of IITKGP's border. It is meant to be a more modern facility with better service. Initial plans were made to shift the main hospital of the campus here in Dec 2024, but were delayed due to some issues. It is not currently operational but expected to become operational soon (No ETA).

This is a list of 24-hour hospitals near IITKGP. I don't endorse any of these, and I have no idea about their quality. I have just put them here since they are 24-hours, relatively closeby (<1hr) and are decently sized. The links are to their G-Maps
Kharagpur Sub Divisional Hospital - Govt, Closest Large Hospital.
South Eastern Railway Main Hospital, Kharagpur Division - Govt, Next to KGP railway station.
Midnapore Medical College & Hospital - Govt, in Midnapore (40 mins - 1hr).
Mednipur Govt Hospital - Govt, in Midnapore (40 mins - 1hr).
St Jospeh's Hospital - Private, in Midnapore (40 mins - 1hr).

Available at your hall, but only at certain timings.
Also available at TechM.
Available on Blinkit at any hour b/w 6AM & 11PM for a higher price.Â
Again, Stationary/Notebooks is available at your hall at certain timings. Also available at TechM and on Blinkit.
Theory Textbooks can be ordered online, but definitely not worth it. Most people borrow the required textbook from the central library, or use methods to get an online version of it.
Certain Lab Textbooks (Chem & Phy Labs) are made by IITKGP itself, and are needed to be purchased by each student, as parts of the textbook itself will have to be filled & corrected. These are usually available at a TechM shop - Thatchers (Open in the evenings, 6-8).
Stationary and such are available in places mentioned above.
Some basic electronic items, including components for projects, are available in TechM (at Bots & Chips), and can also be ordered online (will take time to come though).
Other material are available at TechM (& nearby markets outside campus) and/or within certain labs, if you can get permission.
All major online markets deliver to IITKGP like FlipKart & Amazon. Specific Industry businesses also deliver, like Meesho for Fashion, and 1mg for Meds, but this varies from business to business. Typical delivery times are a couple days to a week maximum.
For most of these deliveries, the delivery person will wait outside the hall with your items, and you will have to go there and collect it. Typical time of delivery is Noon.
BlinkIt's service recently started in IITKGP (Feb 2025), and it has a pretty good selection of items : from fruits & vegetables to snacks to stationary & even some electronics (I even got the monopoly game from blinkit).
The prices are around MRP most times.
Typical delivery times are 15-20 mins. It's effective timings are from 6AM to 11PM daily.
They also have a printout service within app, and while more costly than the shops, it's also available when shops are usually closed.
As mentioned before, there's a vibrant delivery business within campus. Zomato & Swiggy are the primary options, and most restaurants within campus & nearby are available on them (with certain exceptions). Typical Delivery time is about 20-30 mins within campus, and 45 mins from outside campus.
Do note that entry will be restricted into campus at 11pm, so getting deliveries beyond that will be harder (unavailable drivers and/or collecting food from any of the campus gates).
Certain restaurants also have their own apps, such as Dominos. Dishes & offers are usually a little bit cheaper on such apps.
You have the option of having your cycle repaired & serviced within your hall itself ->There will be a shop/centre for cycles where Minor repairs are free, while certain servicing costs a little (most are less than 100). For any major repairs, you'll have to pay the MRP cost of the components. You might need to register your cycle to avail this benefit.
Of course, you can also get it serviced from outside/other shops (in TechM, SupDup, outside KGP), but the "warranty" plans and such vary from place to place.
There are a few electronics shops/repair centres throughout the campus. There are a bunch in TechM, and I have used them before for screen replacement, and the quality & work was good. There is also a computer servicing shop near the CCD spot.Â
They are tailors available within campus, but I haven't used them. Specialist tailors are available in nearby towns - KGP, Midnapore, etc.
This is a non-exhaustive list of what kinds of shops are there in TechM, barring those alreadly listed.
