Do First Day & Week Timeline. Also participate in as many socs selections as you can & are interested in. Start Studying. Explore Campus. Interact with Seniors.
So there are basically no requirements at this point, other than finishing first-day timeline, and preferably attending classes. So here are my recommendations.
Finish the First Day & Week Timeline recommendations!
About half the socs (mainly Socult - Sociocultural, and Business) will have their freshers selections start by 2nd or 3rd Week of the Sem. Your academic load won't be crazy then, so I really recommend you to go to as many selections as you can β even if you're just tangentially interested. The vibe & formalness & nature of each soc varies year by year, so please check in with your batchies & sophs for specific details. We will try to upload a rough overview on the Socs section late though.
That being said, getting or not getting into a Soc doesn't matter much, especially if you can push yourself to just talk to people. Most of my important connections happened through me just associating with non-soc people. Plus most socs don't select you purely on if you're smart or not, but primarily on whether you'd be a good fit to what they want, which is often just grunt work & stuff you didn't expect.
Def start studying as soon as you can, not because the subjects are hard β they are hard in that you'll have to understand instead of memorize, but they aren't insanely hard either β but because you'll need that habit, especially when exams start. See "Studying mindset" in What to do before coming here page to know how to maintain this before coming here. Once the first week is over, I'd recommend spending just an hr or two going over classes, because the discipline & memory from doing that will save you so much stress.
Exploring Campus now involves late night talks with roomies, batchies & possibly seniors. Trying out the variety of food stuffs (See How Not to starve: Where to Eat), going to the various talks & events organized, and going to TechM or nearby outside markets are also other options. And of course, you're not limited to this βΒ Paraphrasing a popular saying: C'est ta vie (It's your life).
Senior interactions now will be predominantly through your community, your dept, and your soc. Though if you're shameless like me, feel free to strike up a convo with a senior randomly while eating (I'm not responsible though lol). Feel free to ask your doubts, worries, everything to the seniors you know well: almost everyone here wants to help you when possible. And most chill seniors will be fine discussing sensitive topics in-person, provided it isn't personal and/or special lore you only unlock later (Life is a game after all).Β
Anyways,
It was a pleasure helping you, even if I might never meet you.
May KGP be just as fun & helpful as it was for many of us.
