This is a collection of places you need to know as a fresher. It's not exhaustive, but this should be everything you NEED to know in KGP, atleast in the first month or so. Please do explore the rest of the campus whenever possible though.
There are two maps attached, one with the important locations highlighted, and the other is the general campus map.
The thick black lines are the main roads.
Thin Black Lines are roads that you will likely use.
The Brown line is 2.2, and can be considered as a main road.
This map was originally part of a green initiative proposal by a kgp team, hence the variation in highlights (Red are made by me, Yellow-Red are the original).
[FUE, with modifications]
---
This was taken from a mirror website for the official IITKGP website because it wasn't available in the main website. Yea, I'm just as confused as you are about that. But anyways, here you go:
[FUE]
Gmap Location : Main Building
This is well, the main building! It's the iconic one with a chimney-style tower you see in all the pics of IITKGP.
Most of the administrative or accounts related stuff will be done here, which honestly won't matter to you in the first month.
The library is also attached to the main building, and is open 8am-12pm.
The campus common room, "Maggu Room" (also NOT known as F127) is also located in the main building and is open 24x7.
Do note it's part of the academic section, and most of your departments are behind this building.
Gmap Location : (Netaji Auditorium)
There are multiple auditoriums in campus, but the most relevant ones will be located in the main building.
Netaji Auditorium : This is the biggest & most modern one in campus, and is where the Induction programme will take place at. Movie screenings on weekends happen too.
Raman & SN Bose Audi : These are older auditoriums located past Netaji Auditorium, and it will accomodate the rest of the students during Induction (Live screening from Netaji). Aka F142 & F134.
Bhatnagar Audi : This is located at the other end of Main Building, & is likely where you will do Biometric Verification for ID cards. Aka F116
See map attached below for specific details.
Gmap Location : V1, Vikramshila Audi in Ramanujan Complex
This is a collection of buildings that was built to supplement the main academic compound, and you will need to know it for labs and other socult activities.
Sir JC Bose Laboratory Complex : Located directly ahead in the Complex. It has most of the 1st year labs (EC, ET, Phy). There is also a DIY lab, which is open to all during normal hours (8-5, weekdays, with lunch break), as long as you inform the lab TA there.
CIC/Takshila : Immediately on the left after entering Ramunujam complex, it's the campus computer labs buildings. You will take many of your class tests here, along with your PDS labs. CIC - Computer Informatics Centre.
Vikramshila : This is a collection of auditoriums in the right-bottom corner of the complex. There are 4 rooms: V1 to V4. You will have your academic registration here, and many Soc selections will also happen here.
Kalidas Auditorium : This is the premier auditorium used for socult events, and you might have certain talks & events here. Opposite to Vikramshila.
There are more buildings here, like Gargi & Maitree Audi, BCR Research centre, etc but they aren't relevant to you this early.
Ramanujan Complex Main Entry (Old) - Ganguly Biswarup, CC 3.0
Ganguly Biswarup, CC 3.0
Gmap Location : Nalanda, near the nehru side.
This is where you'll have most of your theory classes, along with your mid-sem & end-sem exams. It's design & numbering is a little complicated, so please also see the attached map of Nalanda Below.
Do note, for most first year classes, if you're going by Toto: ask to be dropped at "Nehru Side" & if they don't understand, just tell them to go ahead/straight ("Aage/Seedha" in Hindi). Single occupancy should be 40 rs, and 20 rs per person if more than one person.
Structure
There are two types of classroom in Nalanda: Rectangular wide spaced (150-200 capacity), and circular smaller (30-50 capacity) ones. The letters in the name will tell you what kind of classroom it is: NR - Rectangular, NC - Circular.
The number after tells the floor (starts with 1 at ground floor to 4 at 3rd floor), and the second number tells you which section it is (Nalanda is divided into sections, see pic), and the last number is the index in that floor & section.
So examples:
NR112 - Rectangular Classroom at Ground floor, in 1st Rectangular Section, 2nd in said section.
NC321 - Circular Classroom at 2nd floor, in 2nd Circular Section, 1st in said section.
NR424 - Rectangular Classroom at 3rd floor, in 2nd Rectangular Section (diff from 2nd Circular section)
[Do note that 1st Rectangular section is at the "Nehru Side", and 2nd Rectangular section is at the "Subway Side"]
In a feat of archy planning that is extremely common within KGP, the main entrance of Nalanda is tucked away in the side, and the two corners (Nehru & Subway Side) are the ones facing the two major roads leading upto it.
So, as a freshie, most of your common classes will be in the NR rooms, specifically the ones at the Nehru Side. Just keep going straight past Nehru Museum and turn where you see a lot of cycles. Exceptions are there for exams & dept-specific classes.

Do note that the SMST side is known as Nehru Side within campus.
RCR, CCR refers to the sections mentioned above.

Gmap Location : TechM Center
Aka the Tech Market, this is the resident market of the campus. Located a couple hundred metres past BCR hospital, almost anything you need will be available here. And anything you buy in your hall general store will prolly be cheaper here.
Most room & personal requirements will be available here, though shortages do happen occasionally. All necessary materials for colleges (including textbooks & other materials) are also available here.
The typical timing where all shops are open is 5pm-8pm, Mon-Sat. Obviously most shops are open longer than that, but the timings of all shops usually only align in this window
Repair & other service shops are also available.
Ordering online is always an option too!
One of the most central locations in campus, it faces the Aahar/Tikka Food Centre, and is the center of a roundabout with roads leading to Main gate (& Main Building), SNVH-IGH/Hospital/TechM, Sahara, and Nalanda/Ramanujan Complex.
Meant to be an extracurricular activity center, and is located just across from the informal boy's halls area.
Has a variety of facilities, including but not limited to 6 Gyms, Badmintion Courts, Other Sports courts, etc.
Used as a meeting point for both formal & informal reasons, and behind it is the Campus lake & island (a real sight to see).
2.2
A nickname for the central loop of the campus, going through or adjacent to most of the Student Accomodation area. Please see map for what I'm talking about. The name comes from it's length, which is NOT 2.2 km
BC Roy Hospital (BCRTH)
The current official campus hospital (Subject to change). As a student, any medicines & consultations in BCRTH is free for as long as you're a student. That being said, most students wouldn't recommend you to ever go here due to the quality & lack of resources & staff. For non-emergencies, get checked at home itself. For basic emergencies, have meds. For serious emergencies alone, consider BCRTH.
However, for excused absences (medical leave), only BCRTH certificates are allowed, so you'll have to go one way or another.
Helipad
Considered one of the most iconic places in campus, it's what you'll likely go to when you first go exploring with friends. Open from 6-6 though sneaking in might be possible. If you can, try and see the sunset/sunrise from there, especially in a good climate.
This is where you'll be staying during your stint in kgp, i.e. your hostels.
First year boys will get LBS hall. Location :
First year girls will get SNVH-IGH hall. Location :
You will be assigned your hall for the next 3 years after your first year, and the full list can be seen on the HMC website.
