NO branch change, before you ask. I'm sorry.
Most of this is information is from the IITKGP FAQ-UG Pageย
At the end of 2nd year, you will get the option to shift your Bachelors degrees to a Masters-Bachelors degree, by completing one more year of study (so 5 years). You will be awarded a Bachelors (Hons) degree in your parent department, and a separate Masters degree in your second discipline.
The requirements vary by type of dual degree, but here are the rough requirements :ย
CGPA of 6+
No backlogs
Seat should be available (If there are more applicants, in order of CGPA).
Your options are the following :ย
Interdisciplinary (Finance, Entrepreneurship, AI, Petroleum Engineering)
Within the same Department

Available at the end of 1st year (before 3rd Sem). You will NOT get two degrees, you will get one degree (Bachelors in X, and major in Y). Here are the eligibility requirements :ย
A minimum CGPA of 7.0 without any backlog at the time of application.
Continuously maintaining a backlog-free status throughout the program.
Academic Units may also specify pre-requisites for Double Major.
If there are more applications than seats, it will be given based on CGPA ranking
Almost all major depts will have the option to take a double major. As this is the first year this option is being offered, we can't give any ideas on how it will be, but here's what we know.
Extremely hectic. You will have 40+ credits to complete (which is equivalent to another year)
That being said, you will have an extra year to complete it, so you can manage it that way too.
You can also withdraw from the programs
You will have to give a ranking of your subject preferences.
Unsure whether this will allow you to sit for placements for only specific branches

Much less intense, but not as useful either, version of Major. You will typically have to complete 24ish credits, but no extra year for you to finish doing that. The requirements are same as major (with no seat limit though from what I know), and you will have it printed in your transcript. This will not help you enter dept-exclusive placements, but can help give you an edge in general placements, and for research.

Additional Credits : Finishing more than the allotted/required number of credits in a Sem, will make latter sems easier.
Micro Credits : Single credit, 3-14 days course that you can take throughout the sem. Helps with total credits needed.
Micro-Specialization : 10-12 credits (3-4 Courses), that gives you a specific specialization within a department
Semester Away Program (SAP) : 7th sem can be spent in a partner institutions (even abroad), and the credits finished there can be transferred. You will have to pay their fees though.
Semester Away PROJECT Program (SAPP) : ONLY FOR DUAL DEGREE. 9th sem can be spent for a project at a research / academic / industrial place.ย
