William Noble

1814 - 1897


William, the son of jockey Mark was born at White Hall Corner, Norton, Yorkshire, on August 17, 1814.

He won the first-ever Cambridgeshire in 1839 on Lanercost and the 1841 Ascot Gold Cup on the same horse.

He also won the Ayr Gold Cup four times: Despot (1836), The Doctor (1840), The Recorder (1842) & The Shadow (1843).

Sadly, he suffered from asthma and epilepsy at the time of his death which occurred at Gullane in Scotland on September 19, 1897.

His father, Mark, won the first-ever running of the Manchester Cup in 1816 on Friend Ned.
