George Napier

George Napier was born at Kilwinning, Ayrshire, circa 1854, the son of John Napier (c1810-1900), who was private trainer to Lord Eglinton in Scotland.

George rode his first winner in 1869 and gained his biggest success on Irregularity, trained by his father for Lord Eglinton, in the 1871 Ayr Gold Cup.

He rode 11 winners in 1872. However, his riding career tailed off towards the end of that decade.
