Colin Nutter

Born in Middleton, Manchester on July 28, 1956, was once described by his boss, Sir Mark Prescott, as 'the best young head lad in Newmarket, if not in England.'

Colin had joined Prescott as a lad in 1973 to serve his apprenticeship, eventually becoming second jockey.

His first winner came on July 26 1974 at Carlisle riding Longacre, and the most winners he rode in one season was 11 in 1977.

In December 2006, he was involved in a freak accident at the horse crossing at the town end of the Bury Road in Newmarket.

Colin was riding out on a two-year-old when it was struck by a car. The youngster was destroyed and Colin spent several months in hospital.
