Tom was born on March 25, 1790, and rode the 1819 St Leger winner Antonio. He also rode 4 winners of the Ayr Gold Cup.
He had four sons none of whom went into racing.
Tom had a dry sense of humour and still weighed less than 7 stone when in his 80's.
He was emphatic that his mount won the 1831 St Leger.
Very little else is known about Tom who, in 1846, shared digs at Malton with fellow jockeys John Gray and John Holmes.
He died at Malton on June 13, 1875, aged 85.
His Ayr Gold Cup winners were: Dominie Skelp (1827), Brunswick (1830), Gondolier (1831), Masetto (1834)
