Peter Kavanagh

Irish National Hunt jockey Peter Kavanagh was born in Co. Kilkenny on February 21, 1960. He joined trainer Paddy Mullins after leaving school in 1977 and stayed for over 17 years.


He recorded his two most important victories on Boro Quarter in the 1986 Galway Plate and on Redundant Pal in the 1989 Ladbroke Hurdle at Leopardstown.


Redundant Pal was the best he rode during his career. Besides winning the Ladbroke Hurdle Peter also finished second on him in the BMW Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown and fifth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham.


Peter was forced to retire after breaking a vertebra for second time. He later ran a livery business.
