James Knox

James twice rode in the Grand National, finishing ninth in 1895 on Dalkeith.

He won the 1898 Scottish Grand National on Trade Mark and the Grand International Hurdle in 1895 on Swaledale. He also rode Carlton to win the 1893 Hoylake Hunt Steeplechase

After retiring he managed the Hunting Stud of Colonel Salkeld of Holm Hill, Cumberland.

He rode 148 winners.

James died in Edinburgh on January 7, 1911, following an operation.
