Charles Kelly

1883 - 1974


Born on January 17, 1883, Charles Kelly was a top NH jockey who won both the Irish Grand National (1905, Red Lad) and the Welsh Grand National (1914, Succubus - after a run-off).

He also finished second in the 1906 Grand National on Red Lad.

His son, Glen - who died in 2002 - also became a top NH jockey and won the 1951 Becher Chase on Greenogue.

Charles died at Bicester on August 23, 1974.
