Everard Edward Knowles was born in Lincoln in March, 1954, and rode on the Flat and over jumps for four seasons from 1975 to 1978, notching two winners. He also rode over jumps during the 1975/76 campaign and rode one winner from 12 rides.
Associated with the stable of Nigel Wakley, who was in the process of winding down a successful riding career, Everard made his debut at Taunton on November 20, 1975, when his mount Imperial River led in the middle part of the race before fading quickly to finish ninth of twelve finishers in the Necktie Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1).
His first winner was Bitty Boy, trained by Nigel Wakley, in the five-runner Yes Tor Selling Hurdle at Devon & Exeter on June 1, 1976, taking the lead at the last flight and running on strongly to beat Sandy May on Doubtful Lad by four lengths.
Bitty Boy never ran again and Evrard had no further success under National Hunt rules, but at Leicester on October 31, 1977 he had his first Flat winner on 33/1 outsider Star Form for Hampshire trainer John Stuart Evans in the Turn Post Selling Stakes (Division 2) for two-year-olds, running on strongly to repel the challenge of Tony Ives on Lilah Helen by a length..
His third and final victory came for the same trainer at the same racecourse aboard Legal Laird in the Billesdon Selling Handicap for three- and four-year-olds on April 3, 1978, drawing clear inside the final furlong to score by seven lengths.
Having continued to ride under both codes, having his last ride over jumps at Warwick on April 29, 1978, when All Bonus was unplaced in the Leamington Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (Division 1). He had one of his last rides on the Flat when unplaced on Legal Laird in the Daisy Bank Handicap at Wolverhampton on July 10, 1978.
