David Denziloe Killick was born on 3 June 1933 and rode principally for his father, Hedley Killick, who trained at The Downs, Manor Road, Wantage, and provided him with all bar five of the 22 winners he rode during his career.

He rode his first winner on his father’s Dogmatic at Newton Abbot on 12 August 1955 but had to wait more than a year before riding his second, Simonero, at Wincanton.

David Killick - died aged 90

David was involved in an unusual occurrence at Wincanton on 16 November 1961 when his mount, Rulewater II in a handicap hurdle, made an unscheduled appearance over fences. Carried out by a loose horse at the third flight, David found himself heading for the last fence on the steeplechase course. Riding firmly into it with remarkable presence of mind, they soared safely over with feet to spare.

He retired at the end of the 1963/64 season. His final ride appears to have been on novice hurdler Halation  at Wolverhampton on 16 April 1964. Probably the best horse he rode during his career was Solimyth, on whom he scored twice over hurdles. Solimyth progressed to become a decent steeplechaser, winning several races when trained by Alan Oughton and usually ridden by the then John Lawrence, later Lord Oaksey.

Hedley Killick (whose middle name was also Denziloe) was born in 1906. He relinquished his licence to train in September 1967 owing to ill health. One of the better horses he trained was Anthus, on which Ron Hutchinson won the Stroud Green Handicap at Newbury on June 28, 1962
