Evening Egrets

Evening Egrets was the first quilt that I entered in national and international shows.  I took pictures of egrets on the Umpqua River by a boat dock.  These birds were used to boats coming and going and didn't pay any attention to me with my camera.  I did several drawings from these photos, divided the birds into sections, and inked them for shading.  I painted the sky and layered fabrics for the water. This was also the first quilt that I did extensive machine quilting.  Using different colors of thread, I was able to soften and blend background colors.
