Hassan Ali, a 26-year-old Yemeni, was working at a bakery shop when his home was bombed with mortar shells and his family members died. He was the only survivor in his family. He fled to Turkey, where he has been living without any assistance.


He is facing many difficulties because his left eye has no vision and the right eye is weak. He needs a group of five Canadian friends to help him start his life again.

His Story

Hassan Ali Kaish was born on January 1, 1995, in Yemen. The on-going civil war in Yemen has occurred since 2014. this war between the government of Yemen and the Houthi movement which has caused millions of innocent people's death or displacement.


On May 24, 2016, he was working in a bakery shop when he heard about the terrible news that his house had been bombed by the Houthi movement. He immediately reached there and saw his home was destroyed with a mortar shell. His father, mother, sisters, and younger brother died there.

Becoming a Refugee

After a month, Hassan Ali fled to Iran legally due to the on-going civil war in Yemen. He worked in a restaurant in Tabriz, Iran for some months. Then, he arranged for a people smuggler and went to Turkey illegally and he arrived there on February 1, 2018. Later, he tried to go to Greece through the Greek border illegally, but he was caught by Greek police at the border and deported back to Turkey. Finally, he was registered at the Turkish Immigration Department on September 2, 2020.

His Life Now

Hassan Ali has been living in Istanbul, where he has never received assistance from any organization. His left eye has lost its vision and his right eye is weak. He is stuck in Turkey and he can’t return to his country as well due to the civil war.


Opportunity #1: Medical treatment


Hasan is in dire need of medical treatment for his eye, due to the injury he suffered in Yemen. He is now blind in his left eye and the condition in his right eye is rapidly deteriorating. He has been advised by doctors that he will require retinal surgery.


The costs:


Surgery: $3,200 USD - or $4,025 CADS

Recovery expenses (3 months of rent, food, transportation) : $1,000 USD - or $1,260 CAD
