SCHOOL SECURITY GUARD

Abdullah Nazari

Name: Abdullah Nazari

Profile: Hazara refugee from Afghanistan, living in Indonesia.

Advantages: UN-certified, good English skills, experienced construction worker, farmer and security guard, FULLY FUNDED.

Risk: At risk of being tortured and killed by the Taliban if returned home.

Canadian contact: Stephen Watt

Needed: A group of five friends to support him.

Due to being a security guard at the school in his village, Abdullah was arrested by the Taliban. He knew that he would be killed at any time soon, so he decided to escape from there, and he made it to Indonesia.

While living in limbo, he has been suffering from lumbar disc disease which can be treated but in the third country like Canada. His hope now is to find a group of five Canadian friends who can help him start his life again in Canada.

Taken and Escaped

Abdullah Nazari was born on July 3, 1992 in Jaghori district in Ghazni province in Afghanistan. His father was a security guard in the school of his village. In 2014, his father passed away, and he started working as a security guard there to support his family. Since he was not registered with the Ministry of Education, he received wheat instead of his salary from local people of the village. One day in 2016, the school principal told him to go to Ghazni and register himself in the Ministry of Education office to receive his salary.

On February 14, 2016, he was heading to Ghazni in a taxi when the Taliban stopped the car in Dasht-e-Qarabagh, and after finding some school documents, they took him to an unknown place.

“I knew that I would be killed by the Taliban sooner or later if I did not escape from there, so I decided to find a way to save my life.”

Fortunately, Abdullah escaped through a window and made it to the highway. From there, he went to Kabul by a car. Since he was recognized by the Taliban and was at the risk of being arrested and killed, he had to leave the country immediately.

His Journey

With the help of his aunt who was living in Kabul, he arranged for a people smuggler, and on March 26, 2016, he flew to New Delhi, India. From there he went to Singapore by plane and then on to Indonesia on April 5, 2016.

Life in Indonesia

After arriving in Jakarta, he registered himself with the UNHCR on April 7, 2016. With no right to work or way to support himself, he went to Manado Immigration Centre to ask for assistance. On July 27, 2016, he was transferred to a detention centre in Manado where he was detained for more than 2 years. On November 7, 2018, he received his freedom and was transferred to a community house in Batam.

Suffering

Since 2017, Abdullah has been suffering from lumbar disc disease, and according to the doctors, he can be treated in the third country. On the other hand, he has been very worried for his family who is left in Afghanistan.

“I am always thinking about my family and their safety. I feel very helpless that I cannot help them.”

His Only Option!

As a refugee, Abdullah cannot work, get proper education, drive and even open a bank account. His only option to live his life with freedom and treat his lumbar disc disease is to resettle in a safe country like Canada.

Since he is officially certified as a refugee by the UNHCR – unlike the vast majority of the world’s refugees – he qualifies for Canada’s private sponsorship program. Another good thing about him is that he is FULLY FUNDED.

If you would like to sponsor him – or if you’re just interested in helping to bring him here – please contact his friend Stephen Watt on Facebook.
